|
|
My current satnav, a TomTom Go 720, is getting old and needs replacing.
I bought a TomTom Go 600 which looks very nice however is missing features I used in the 720, namely the Itinerary. I do a lot of driving in Scotland with friends and use google maps to create routes for each day and then convert them to ITN files and then upload to the ITN folder in the 720.
The 600 does not show up in My Computer plus it does not support ITN files. You can add destinations within a route but no use if I want to email the routes to my friends. The 600 screen is very nice and I like the idea of a 6" screen but would like your views re the 6" screen over a 5" screen.
I like the way the wat the tomtom cradle works where the power supply is attached to it and the init is held on by a magnet. I also like the look of the maps, quite modern and up to date.
So, I hear your ask, why are you posting on the Garmin Forum?
I have looked at the garmin site and ticked the boxes of things I would like: Lifetime Maps, Lifetime Trafic, Voice Control, Real Directions and multi swipe screen.
These choices bring up the following units:
nüvi® 2599LMT-D
nüvi® 2699LMT-D
nüvi® 2799LMT-D
nüvi® 3598LMT-D
The first 3 are the same, just different screen size although when jumping from the 5" to the 6" the resolution is higher. The 3598 is out of my price range.
What also apeals is the Garmin does not reply on a phone for the trafic updates.
So, will the 2*99LMT-D do itinaries? Is this unit/s a good choice? 5" or 6" pros/cons
Thanks |

Yes, they do itineraries.
As for preference of 5" screen or 6 or 7 ... I find my 5" screen plenty big enough, never used a 6 or 7" one ... disadvantage I would think is a placement problem, advantage might be if you have vision issues. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I've got the 2599 and it's fine. What I do like over the 2597 is the glass front which looks classier than the matt finish of the 97.
I must do something with the 97 as it's mainly stuck in a cupboard. Currently using it for Smartlink testing since they broke it and it looks like it might be fixed. _________________ Satnav:

Well I popped to Halfords and bought the 2599. Been having a play and satisfied myself it does routes
Tyre does not seem to be able to upload to it, I suspect there is protection on the garmin. I have had a play with BaseCamp which is OK but a bit old fasioned, is there an alternative? |

Which Basecamp version? I'm on v4.4.6 and must confess I don't find it 'old fashioned' _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I guess so
So what makes you call it 'old fashioned'? Basecamp team are continuously updating and refining it, now it's far more capable than it ever was _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Has it got the modern Metro look? If not it's "old fashioned" (according to Microsoft). |

I do hope it never goes that way. Even Microsoft accept that they went too far.

Microsoft developed Win8 for small touchscreen devices and forgot all about desktops.
Office 2013 is a prime example where the useful plethora of small mouse clickable functions were replaced with considerably less finger size buttons.
Mappoint 2013 removed all the colour from the menu and that now has black and white large buttons. Looks like a step backwards. _________________ Satnav:

You did connect your SatNav when BaseCamp was loaded? |
