Doh....Yes I saw that after I posted and it has a set for Holland. Are these sets the better ones of you examples above?

Yes those are the ones. DC Rainmaker is well known amongst cyclists and his guides are invariably excellent. As a cyclists though you may find the site he and I both mention, http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/, better.

Great thing with free maps is that you can download as many as you want and experiment

Techy or not ... you should be fine Very Happy Wink

'Better' really is subjective. I use the Freizeitkarte maps on my GPS for hiking, but the ones on the openstreet.nl site have specific ones for cyclists, which may be 'better' for you.

But as I said, they're free so download a couple and compare them yourself to see what is actually 'best' for you.

I have 5 different mapsets on my GPS, and switch between them if I think one has a particular advantage over another.

Just requested the maps for Amsterdam area. can you save them somewhere when you get them as it says they are only available for a short while. also can i view them on PC.....is it via Basecamp?

funny it reminds me of the early days with garmin, where you had to select from grid and download what you needed, due to lack of memory......

The time limit is simply on the download ... once you've downloaded them you can save them and use them wherever/whenever you wish.

You can view them via Basecamp ... but they have to either be on your GPS or a sd card/usb stick (in a folder named Garmin).

The mapping should download directly into Mapsource/Basecamp. In the former it will appear in the drop down box of mapping choices at top left - no idea about BC

Sorry but it won't necessarily. You're right that there is an installer version, I'd forgotten that site provides one but it depends how complicated you want to get, I tend to simply download the .img file which is then placed directly into the Garmin folder on the GPS.

maybe I explained myself badly but take your point Confused

i just downloaded some more maps for London and the S/E. We were at a campsite in west Sussex the other week in the village of Slinfold. The site sits right on the south downs cycle/walking route, but this is missing from maps I downloaded.

any ideas....

edit: maybe I did not select the cycle route..not sure..thought I did. will try again!

Slinfold? Do you mean Slindon?

All my maps show a camp site there.

Well that's not on the SDW Confused

It is on the Downs Link, is that what you meant?

Either way there's no camp site even shown on the OS mapping there.

The cycleway (222) you refer to shows up on OSM but not the campsite - this might be because as a Caravan Club site no one has logged it yet - you yourself could register with OSM (http://www.openstreetmap.org) and do it!
