Deleted the 3 font folders and all seems well at the moment.
No Chinese writing just camera and warning.
Everything else seems fine
Many thanks

Having a bit of problem installing the speed camera data base onto the Garmin Map Pilot SD Card Europe 2016 and wondered if anyone could offer any advice as to what I’m doing wrong or is it an issue with the Command System on-board the car? Details as follows;

Car – 2016 Mercedes AMG SLC43, 3 weeks old

When I view the system the Command System is listed as NTG5Star1, software Version 38.18

SD Card Garmin Map Pilot Europe 2016, V6 Map 6.0

I’ve tried loading the speed camera database as a .gpi file using the naming convention of Speedcams_UK_Camera.gpi and placed it in the POI folder on the SD card.

That didn’t work, so I created a folder called PersonalPOI within the main folder on the SD card and loaded speed camera data base in there.

That didn’t work either, so I created a folder called PersonalPOI as a stand alone folder on the SD card and loaded the camera data base in there.

That didn’t work either.

The main issue seems to be that when I enter the Navi menu there isn’t an option to import or copy any personal POI’s or is the system supposed to just pull the POI’s automatically into the sat nav?

The other method that I’ve tried is loading the speed camera database using the Garmin POI Loader and letting it place the POI camera file directly into the POI folder on the original Mercedes supplied SD card and that didn’t work either.

Am I doing something wrong or perhaps it’s due to the particular Command system that is installed in the car?

Hope someone can help.

I didn't think the Command system used Garmin mate?
If you look in the other sub forums, I think there is one dedicated to Merc Command and how to get it running.
I think it's easier to get icons showing, but you can't get an alert sound in command.

Hi mate.
The Garmin sat nav runs n the Audio 20 ICE system.
The Command ICE system is different.

More experiments, more things found.

The biggest one being, it seems Mercedes have coded this unit to suppress POI icons 'on' a road; these would usually be cameras.

So.....

I got Excel to change every camera location in every file by 5 metres (or so) thereby moving them slightly off road.
BOOM!
A map littered with little pictures of cameras :-) at all zoom levels up to and including 2 miles.

Why MB do this I have no idea :-/

More testing tomorrow, but it appears I will be using 3 sets of files as above but now in this configuration.

Set one - .BMP's removed but files left as is with speed and code words, express installed. This will give me speed alerts of approaching cameras.

Set two - speed info and .BMP's removed but Garmin code words left as is and manually configured. This will give me proximity alerts, I set it to 2640 feet (1/2 mile-ish).

Set three - speed and code words removed, locations edited to a point just off the road, .BMP's left as is, express installed. This gives me icons on the map. And unless your really zoomed in, they are close enough to look like they are on the road your on.

:-)

I have emailed MB and asked if they can confirm this and maybe tell us why.

Nemesis1 : Thanks for your work and postings.

How did you move the cameras in Excel by 5 metres?
Did you add a 'fudge factor' onto every Lat and/or Long?

Increase or decrease the lat and lon position by 0.00006 degrees. That will shift the position in lat by about 21 feet and lon by about 13 feet.

I've had a reasonable amount of success following Nemesis1 post on Page 4 of this thread ...

I created the 3 separate sets of Garmim .gpi files for 'speed', 'distance' and 'position (edited to offset).

It requires some minor easily googled Excel editing techniques ...

Here are a few screen shots :
I get the banner come up within the distance (set to 1/2 mile 2640ft) and the speed bong.
I only get the camera location icon within the distance ... not sure why ... maybe because I only added 0.00006 to the Lat not the Long?

All in all I'm very happy with the result and many thanks to Nemesis1 for all his hard work on this ......

If you only move it in Lat, it will only move the camera a bit further up/down a north /south road, and rather defeat the object of moving it. I suppose that you could also argue that if you move it in both lat and lon by the same amount, you are only moving it up/down the road on a NE/SW or NW/SE road. Sad

Yeah fair comment M8TJT - No easy work around that!

I'm getting the icon side tiles 'sticking' down the LHS of the screen well after passing mobile sites .... no sure why, doesn't happen with Gatsos ...

There is a workaround for that. The cameras that have N or S at the front of the description need moving East or West (it doesn't matter which) and the cameras that have E or W at the front of the description need moving North or South.

Thanks pcaouolte, I'm not sure how to do that in Excel ...

I've removed the BMP file with the shifted positions, I'm happy with the camera alerts from the two distance and speed .GPI files.
I get alerts OK and it shoes the camera location when within 1/2 mile, even with POI's selected to OFF.

If I want to edit the Camera names to say include the speed limit and remove the camera number can I do all that in Kremmens software utility easily?

Thanks.
