Oh no it doesn't, the 2599LMTD comes with a TA10 Smile

The TA10 has a slightly thinner cable but certainly has no blob. Reception seems fine, even though it's behind the dash again.

Currently downloading the 2015.20 map. Let's see if it asks for the SD card which is ready and waiting if it does.

Now, I'm currently seeing 2 options to download a firmware updates for :

GTMxx Traffic Receiver Type 3 3.10
GTMxx Digital Radio Type S 2.30

Being as I've got a TA10 I'm hesitant to update these as I'm sure it was after one of these that SmartLink threw a wobbly and I'm never going to connect a GTMxx.

Hmmm ... Wonder what the difference is then? And indeed why change it as it will be doing the same as a TA20?

Probably just found a way to shave a few cents off the cost so given it a different number.

2015.20 fitted on the device with 750Mb spare.

Was a bit less but I've removed all voices except English and most of the vehicles I don't want.

Wonder what else I can prune?

All in all I quite like this unit. The front is shiny glass as opposed to the 2597 that was a matt plastic that did give slightly during touch operations. The power button is on the back but I never use that as I've got it wires to the car ignition so it auto start/stops.

Firmware upgrade to 5.30

Quite some leap from the fairly recent 4.50

How do you guys find the screen for visibilty in the car, particularly in bright sunlight?

Being a glass screen do you get reflections or glare?

I'm looking to buy one myself (or a similar model) and this is one of my concerns, as the screen looks great in the shop, bright, sharp and I like the pinch to zoom, but what's it like to use on the road?

I haven't used it 'in anger' yet as I've recently taken early retirement and my car usage had dropped dramatically. You are right with your concern though.

From what I can tell though the display is not the usual type you would expect with a shiny glass front but seems to have been designed to cope with bright light.

Don't take my word for it though and wait for someone who has used it in bright light.

Thanks for the reply Smile

That makes sense actually that they would have some sort of coating to help in bright sunlight and from replies in another thread I've asked in the responses seem to be that the display is fine in use.

Looks like it's time to purchase...

TBH looking at the 2597 and the 2599 side by side it like comparing normal TV to HD, the 2599 seems sharper.

The one thing the 2599 hasn't got (2597 has) is the Garmin Tracker feature, not that I ever used it anyway.

I plugged my 2597 in this morning at that hasn't been offered the 3.5 firmware update. Must be a 2599 thing.

I've ended up with a 2569LMT-D, which is essentially the same as the 2599 but without voice control, which I'm not bothered about.

It's just doing all the updates now...

No BT either ... although that wouldn't bother me.

It has got BT Wink

I can confirm this as my iPhone is currently synced and running the Smart Link app, works a treat

I've compared specs and the voice commands is the only missing feature
