When I go hiking I have my Garmin device with me, loaded with a full OSM uk map with contours, I also have a map case with my route printed on a number (depending on the length of the route) of A4 sheets using Ordnance Survey's 'Getamap' service in 1:25000 scale, plus a full Ordnance Survey Explorer map for the particular area and a compass. All of which I am competent with. I wouldnt go hiking if I wasn't. Why they keep blaming these devices is beyond me, some people are just brainless!
