Coordinatres entry (was "TomTom XL")

I live part of the year in Spain and my house has no actual address. To get a location to provide in emergencies I used the lat/lon provided on my TomTom. However if I enter the same settings in MS Autoroute oe Google Earth I am positioned in a totally different location, usually in the sea. Can anyone explain?

Is you device and Google earth set to use the same lat/ long position format i.e:

D.D Decimal Degrees
D.D.M Degrees, decimal minutes
D.M.S Degrees minutes and seconds

If not there are times when your position could be considerably different - Mike

Is the address west of the meridian? If it is, are you entering a minus sign before the longitude element of the coordinates? If not, you would be quite likely to end up in the sea!
