I submitted a new Co-Op a few days ago, and compared to the other shop icons around it, the Co-Op ones (Food and Pharmacy) did look rather squashed on the submission map too.

In the beginning the Co-op logo resulted, when reduced to a max of 22 pixels high, in an icon that was 16 pixels wide (to maintain the height/width ratio). As most icons are 22 x 22 a white background was added either side.
I think there are a couple more like that.

May I offer these as new versions?
Food:
Pharmacy:
(right-click and "save as..." on them both to download the .bmp versions).
The colours and font are taken from the Co-Op corporate website:

I liked it! (I tried both)
Plus
i. it's how it's spelt in the full name and
ii. it has less chicken-y connotations!

The green colour is wrong. If you drive past a co-op and look at the colour on their actual signs it is much brighter and nicer looking. |

What do you think of this Co-op icon, which I developed from the Co-Op's own logo from its website:

OK .... done a compromise for Supermarket, but can't get the Pharmacy Icon to Upload (see MaFt's comment).
Why one will Upload, and not the other, is something I have no control over. Might be a Read-Only Attribute is the problem. _________________ Richard

Then change it yourself and offer your suggestion!
The colours used are taken directly from the word "food" and "pharmacy" in their logos on their website. The only difference between Privateer's and mine will be down to which individual pixel was chosen by the eyedropper tool from the .jpg. |

That's what I tried first, but I thought the letters ended up a bit too small with it all on one line.
I like the black border though.
What I can't understand is why my ones don't look square on my own monitor, but yours does. |

Well, that icon is actually developed from the main logo found on the Co-Ops own web page. So that colours are the best you'll get with the limitations of icons.
Please bear in mind that the logos will generally be in 24 bit colour, I always reduce down to the level of 256 colour icons so that older SatNavs can use the icons as well.
Andy_P wrote: | Then change it yourself and offer your suggestion! |
Thanks Andy, you beat me to it!
mccririck, please have a go of creating an icon. You can read Bo Peep's Guide To Creating A POI (Point Of Interest), which can be found here.
Andy_P wrote: | I like the black border though. |
Thanks, if the icon uses a pale colour then I think that a black border (of 1 pixel) helps the icon to show up better on the SatNav screen.
Andy_P wrote: | What I can't understand is why my ones don't look square on my own monitor, but yours does. |
I've checked your icon and it is definitely 22 x 22 pixels. I think that it's actually an optical illusion that your icon doesn't look square. The black border on my icon may help to define it so that it does looks square. This is only a theory and I'm happy to be corrected on this matter.

As I've said above, the logo from the Co-Ops website may be in 24bit colour and I've used MS Paint to convert to 256 colour (to be compatible with older SatNavs). Therefore if your zoom in to the icon, you will find that the background colour is actually several different colours to produce an illusion of a different (i.e. the original 24 bit logo) colour. I hope that this makes sense as I've written it quickly!

{Sings....} "There may be trouble ahead...."
Typical! There's currently a topic running (here) about how some of the POI icons are not showing up on TomTom on the iPhone because a few of them AREN'T 24-bit! |

Hi Andy and Richard,
OK it looks like I should be doing icons in 24 bit from now on, and no longer in 256 colour. Thanks for the heads up!
