Hi and welcome.
Please see this forum link for the details.
Please note that this is not an officially supported method but there is little risk in applying it.
As ever though, please take a full backup before you change anything. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hi All
I would just say that I have sdk menus on my Start and, when I upgraded to version 9.053 (I think -- don't have info with me here) it stopped working -- or started behaving oddly. I reverted to the previous edition and have not updated since.
If someone can confirm that later versions still support sdk, I would be very happy!
Enjoyed readng posts on this forum for a long time and finally got round to contributing! |

Another way of getting the database working is to copy the "MapSettings.cfg" file from a unit that fully supports custom POI warnings straight to the map folder on the Start along with all the necessary ov2, bmp and ogg files (if you want spoken alerts) thus negating the need to run a custom menu.
@ Darren, this works in the same way as the TT iPhone app work around - get a MapSettings.cfg file from a device fully configured running the same version of map and give it a try - Mike |

Would this be something we (PGPSW) could usefully provide as a download?
Would there only need to be versions for each map version/locale, or would different software revisions need different versions too? |

When you consider all the options available its going to be a bloody nightmare to cater for everyone.
Warn only on route Yes/ No
Spoken alerts included Yes/ No
Distances to be used (x10 or different)
pMobiles included Yes/ No
70MPH cameras excluded (for DennisN )
Database type (SZ or Consol)
All the above combined make for a rather difficult task to get the required MapSettings.cfg file and it needs to come from a same version map as is running on the Start, don't assume everyone is on the latest current v855 map UK or Europe - Put this little lot in the mixer and you start to get a headache.
The approach I took for the TT iPhone app was:
Warn only if POI on route = Yes in all cases
Distance set using x10 rule in all cases
Spoken alerts used for all categories
Speed zoned only
No pMobiles included
Whilst its possible to create a MapSettings file it will only be to one persons specification and without access to a PND its going to be difficult for an end user to carry out a true DIY file creation, but this has got the old grey matter thinking (dangerous I know) but how about creating the file on the fly like we used to create custom menu files from an online web based site where a user can enter answers to specific questions in order to generate the required file - Mike |

Now that is a very good idea, a mapsettings.cfg kitchen. For the uninitiated, 'kitchen' refers to a web based software system that allows you to 'cook' your own custom version of a software app, ROM etc.
If it's technically possible then it could be very useful. We'll look into it. _________________ Darren Griffin |
