been sent by email the tomtom 1 year + 6 months free map upgrade for tomtom 0NE iq routes w europe. price is £35.80 which seems quite reasonable for 6 map upgrades.
my question is that i seem to remember a few years ago on an earlier tomtom one i upgraded my map and then spent hours re installing pgpsw camera database, poi's and favourites etc.
is this still the case cos if it is i won't bother. i don't mind paying this amount to have latest maps but only if it keeps all my other data intact.
would appreciate your comments and advice.
thanks. |

I've just upgraded a map 30 minutes ago, and yes it does still wipe out your favourites, speed camera warnings, etc. |

But there's usually a fairly simple way round it.
Backup before you update the map.
Find the MapSettings.cfg file in the map folder and replace it with the old one from your backup.
That should be it, but on some combinations of map and software, the unit may go into a re-boot cycle.
If that happens, connect to Home and use the on-screen "operate my Go" to edit a favourite or add a new one.
It should then work and your warnings and Favourites should be restored. |

Hi Andy_P
Yes, I follow the method that you describe and my favourites are always faithfully restored. However, I have never yet had my speed camera warnings restored and I always have to enter all the warning details again. It doesn’t bother me and only takes a few minutes. But it does puzzle me that some people have no problem with the cameras yet I have to enter the info again from scratch. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

I think I've got away with it on 2 out of 5 occasions.
Converting the Favourites to POIs makes the process easier too... |
