1st of all thanks to Anita for pointing me to the correct thread.
I agree with all the comments for the pinpoint post code function being useful.
A case in point I had recently in Peterborough, a garden centre in the middle of nowhere, entered the given number 1 and after going up and down for a couple of miles with no joy, I bit the bullet and followed my nose(as I used to pre satnav ). Then found the place some 6 miles from where my Go sent me.
Whilst I agree post codes can cover a large area, I have no doubt that it would still have saved me the 1/2 hour or so it took and without the frustration.

Dave, please add your voice to those of us who have complained to TomTom. They just might listen to us, although from past experience I doubt it! _________________ Anita

Sounds like a plan Dennis, only problem is I trashed my 520, along with the regular back ups I had for it being no use on its replacment.
Does anyone have a link to 8.302, Oldboy for example, i seem to recall he used to have a site for stuff like that.
And do you know what, if any, differences there are between 8.302 and 8.351?

From memory the FM Tx option won't work when running 8,3x but otherwise the device will be fine, 8,351 sorted out the FM Tx but messed up Bluetooth so its really a choice between the two - Mike |

Being as I dont use either of those features, looks like a revert back for me. BT has never worked for me no matter version navecore I had.

The postcode feature to a non-house number IS on the latest 950 navcore!
So it may be being introduced back! _________________ Tomtom GO 1005 LIVE

The real reason I reverted to 8.302 from 8.351 was the volume "challenge" - I was challenged to hear it when the previous volume "challenge" (crackling for some people on 100% volume) was "resolved" by TomTom changing the volume by reducing it to where I couldn't hear it (instead of telling people, as we on pgpsw did, to turn the volume down!). Didn't it also "resolve" the worsening volume "challenge" with battery drain by reducing the time it ran on battery?
Incidentally, my 8.302 came off my 920, not from a backup of the 520, which was "brand new" refurbished on 3rd November. _________________ Dennis

"Introduced back" - bit of a contradiction in terms, perhaps? Alternatively, maybe TomTom want us to bin our (previously) satisfactory x00s, x10s, x20s, x30s and x40s and go out to pay £300 for a model which is bringing back a feature TomToms have had to my personal knowledge since 2005 (it was on my 300 and 700 back then), which they dropped a couple of months ago. This is even craftier than conning all the sad Mapshare sufferers! _________________ Dennis

A 'pinpoint' would be a random point somewhere in this area. Having more control by using house numbers is surely better. |
falkirk81 is this a software problem? So it can be taken out? have you got the TT contact number or email? I checked their website but can't find anything other then a TT help line. Do you have an email?
Also is there an official TT forum? |
If you go to their website and go on Support, then FAQs, eventually, you can get down to Contact us and a phone number. Surprisingly quick reply and then spoke at length to a guy who proceeded to get irritated when I said this was a backward step, as loads of roads in my area,(including my own) do not have street numbers. He said this was the first complaint he had received and he had no knowledge of any issue with this. He said he would pass on my concerns to his tech. guys but there were no plans to do a software update and he thought it unlikely that they would do so.
A previous poster said that a postcode can cover several square miles, I have never known of this and the 6 figure postcode was introduced so that the area for that code was clearly defined.
