I just brought a TT XL IQ. I have noticed if you enter a post code, you have to enter a street number before the device lets you enter the next stage.

Trouble is not all streets as a street number. Eg Office Blocks.

Is there a work around to this problem?

If there is no House Number then just tap OK.

If the Device knows there are no numbers it will then take you to the centre location of the Postcode. It seems to ask for the House Number when the road named has more than one Postcode, and one or more of the Postcodes has House Numbers.

But being a TT it may be inconsistent in this. Smile

Mind you I haven't tried every Postcode in the UK. Wink

When it insists on a house number that I haven't got, I just enter one in the middle of the range it gives. If it still complains (eg if that particular number doesn't exist), use the first one it says.

It should get you to the right road at least.

I did that, enter the number in the middle of the range. Took me to the road alright but then was lost as the road was half a mile long. Ended up going up and down till I saw the building I wanted.

Annoying thing about TT.

Oldboy what model do you have? My mate has TT onev4 I think and his is able to have a pinpointed post code. Mine is a better version to the TTone and it doesn't have pinpointed post code search.

No happy at all as I am scared now to go to places with no address number

It's not really TomTom's fault that a postcode can cover a road 1/2 a mile long. If a business wants you to be able to find them easily, they should give instructions - eg nearby side streets. Other than that, they can be 21st century and give the GPS co-ordinates or even provide a POI file on their website.

I wouldn't be scared. If there's no full address, ask them where on the road they are - most are used to couriers / visitors etc asking all the time.

But why is the post code pinpoint search available in older models of TT but not newer ones? Well not on the XL IQ anyway?

I agree thats it annoying. On my 940, there was a navcore version that allowed a user to navigate to the postcode. Then a newer navcore stopped this, and you HAD to use a house number!

So it IS possible to navigate to a postcode!

Why are they taking a step back with this technology?

I am not sure. I questioned it with TT but never got a response.

All I know is, it was working fine on my 940 and after a software update it required a house number!

I'm not sure what's great about a pinpointed postcode over one that you have more control over. In reality, a postcode can cover anything from one office to several square miles.

A 'pinpoint' would be a random point somewhere in this area. Having more control by using house numbers is surely better. Confused

The point is that when you are trying to find an address on a road that has house numbers, but the building you are looking for is a name and not a number. You therefore are made to choose a house number but not knowing at what end or where on the road the building is that you want.

There are office blocks, buildings with no street number.

The problem with the TT is it asks you for a street number. Well if there isn't one how do you enter one?

The Post code function is useless in that you HAVE to enter a street number and name. Might as well enter a street number and name.

Disappointed by this especially since someone said it did have post code pinpoint available before.

falkirk81 is this a software problem? So it can be taken out? have you got the TT contact number or email? I checked their website but can't find anything other then a TT help line. Do you have an email?

Also is there an official TT forum?
