Hi - I was thinking of downloading the Pocket GPS speedcameras. Can I ask how often the database is updated / what is the process for updating ?

I have a TomTom 520 so I assume to update the TomTom speedcamera database is very easy through TomTom home. However, with the Pocket GPS alternative I assume it is a question of downloading the whole database again manually, replacing the old database with the new etc.

Many thanks for any info you can give.

The database is updated most weeks on a Wednesday. There is a bit of setting up to do the first time to personalise your settings but after that it's just download the database and overwrite the data files. This is done using Explorer.

Step-by-step instructions are on the download page and we're here to help if you get stuck.

Could I just jump in on this thread, rather than start a new one...I've just downloaded the camera database for the first time and installed successfully thanks to the excellent guides on this site. When I update the database, do I have to go through the process of setting the POI warning distances and sounds again, or is this info retained?

Many thanks

They're retained. Only time you may have to re-do them is if you buy a new map or do a software update and even then there are solutions to that.

Thanks Darren, thats great, it should then be a simple job of downloading the file then extracting straight into the maps folder if I have understood correctly.

Also, do I need to remove my TomTom speed camera files? (Which I lost confidence with when waiting about 4 months for an average speed camera to appear in Nottingham)

Best wishes

Rick

Rickyw,
There is no need to remove the TomTom SafetyCam POI's. Some people leave both sets running for a while as a kind of Belts'n'Braces approach to things.
After a while though, you may wish to leave just the PGPSW SafetyCams activated as The TT ones are too infrequent to rely upon. To do this, either de-activate them on your TT using the menus OR remove them completely by using TomTom Home.

Thanks ALi, I'll leave the TomTom cams in for now. I went to see U2 at Sheffield last night and found that both will work side by side. Interesting to see the comparison, the TomTom cams (or lack of them) left me in no doubt I have made a good investment switching to the PGPS World Cams.

Best wishes
