My local maplins was doing the Magellan Triton 200 for £39 and another tenner gets the 300 version - Tagged "Can download maps".....
So I bought it - and a strangely mixed bag it is too.
Spot of background - I own the set of Admiralty manuals - and the sight reduction tables - have used Deccanav (ancient hyperbolic terrestrial system) - have used marine GPS systems since 1995 and have a Garmin Nuvi for use in the car.
Back to the Triton.
The Good
It sucks signal from the sky better than anything else I've met - and resolves a first fix from cold in under three minutes.
Large choice in Map Datum and Co-ordinate systems - good clear effective display - lovely user configurable text data pages.
The user defined "Profiles", where you select all manner of options like Coordinate system and whether the anchor alert is on, - neat idea works well
The Bad
There are NO topo maps for the UK - sure you could download something - but the somethings are for Canda and the USA.
The Dodgy
It connects to a computer and can be powered from a USB cable - It Will speak to Vantage point(Magellan's own software) - sort of speak to Quo -the Live GPS nema based stuff works.
But does not talk to EasyGPS so exchanging waypoint with the Garmin is a right royal pain...
