I am thinking that TomTom should just create a code fork from 8.010 and just add support for IQ2 and the 8.15 maps.

Some would say that the update from 810 to 815 maps is just that - an update to incorporate IQ2, with no actual new mapping data.

...but, trying to second guess TT is pure speculation

GPS_fan,

I was talking about a navcore code fork.

It also wouldn't surprise me at this point if the map update from 810 to 815 contained little or no new mapping data.

TT confirmed to me today that they are aware of this thread and didn't seem particularly happy with me when I sent through a huge list of case numbers and asked them when they were going to get round to sorting this mess out.

Anyone noticed if the new maps make any difference? Might have to go back to 8.301 and TTS6 to see if it is as bad as before.

I've been following this with interest. Apart from posting my support case file numbers I have not participated.

However it occurs to me that when the appropriate time comes, we should ALL lodge exactly the same complaint against TomTom in our local jurisdictions. That should get their attention.

They had me wipe, reformat, restore and then reinstall the voices and run something called clear_flash.exe. Not a job for a novice, and at the end of it all I still have the same problems.
Like the rest of you I also don't appreciate (or understand) the removal of features that I paid for.

what features are they?

The only feature removed is the FM transmission of navigation instructions, and they had to do that to conform to telecoms regulations.

If it is really importent to you, you could buy one of the little cheap FM transmitters meant for iPods etc. and plug it into the line output jack.

Then of course *you* would be breaking the regulations, but I doubt you will have the Special Branch breaking down your door over it.

Reported audio stutter and sometimes loss of audio on TT 720 with app 8.301 and maps 815.

Response just received from TomTom:

Quote:
This can be resolved by installing a different build of the computer voice ;

it is important that you unpack the .cab file with winRAR or a similar application that can extract data from .cab files and not XP/ winzip.

Connect the device to Tomtom home and go to “remove items from my device”
-Remove the computervoices from the device
download following link:
- Open the .cab file with Winrar Or similar application that will unpack .cab files ( not winzip or the windows built-in unzipper

Connect the device to the PC and open (My ) Computer and it will recognised as a device with removal storage . Double clck-it and you will see the contents of the x20s internal memory
- Just copy the content of .cab file into the yellow “LoquendoTTS” folder on the root of the device. You have to say yes to copy directories.
Safely disconnect the device and let it reboot.

I'll give it a try, but if it were that simple I don't suppose so many people would still be having problems.

A necessary but not sufficient step!

Hi all,
I'm adding my name to this ever growing list ( 090302-005288 ) i am now placing an officail complant with tomtom i have also emailed watchdog about this.

Also while i was on the phone i was told that thay are looking into this a new ver of home is due out next week and they are hoping for the fix to be released at the same time.

i'm not going to be holding my breath about this they can't even seem to be fixing this in 4 months let alone after they have just released an update.

I am for one sick of this and feel that tomtom should as a good will give all of us a free update on the lastest maps we all have i feel it is time we all stood up against them and used or voices to force tomtom into resolving this.

Possibly it is just broken?
Do you have access to another machine to try it on?

Connect the device to your computer and use Windows Explorer to view files / folders on the device, locate the file "mctx.dat" in the root of the drive, right click this and select "open with" then choose NotePad.

With the file open does it read "22222" (without the "") or is it full of rubbish? - if its full of rubbish delete the text and type 22222 now save the file - disconnect from the PC and try the unit with the RDS receiver connected to the device - can you see the traffic information bar or not? - Mike
