Hi there, I was wondering if anyone had permanatly fixed the clip on in there car?

I have an external antenna, and I would like to fix the reciever out of site, but I am not aware of any "hardwiring" kit that will get rid of the lighter socket adapter.

Has anyone done this or have any clever ideas?

kind regards

Don't underestimate the cigarette lighter adapter - it provides the downward conversion from 12V in the car to 5V required by the receiver. If you want to hardwire the receiver in you need to take the converter into account as well.

I would also recommend to connect the power of the receiver to the ignition. You don't drain the battery that way, and since your car hasn't moved much when it was switched off (at least that's what I hope) you will regain a fix pretty quick. I normally get a fix after about 200 meters drive - my BT receiver is in the trunk, luckily there was a spare cigarette lighter socket.

Lutz,

I wouldn't underestimate the cigarette lighter as it's invaluable in providing flexibilty when moving from vehicle to vehicle, but my problem is that while I have my 2210 hardwired I need cigarette lighter sockets for my BT, phone, iPod, and FM transmitter (to get music from the iPod into the stereo system)

Four lighter sockets on a motorcycle is pushing it a bit. Smile

Hello Jon,

I have my Fortuna Clip-On hardwired in to the car. I use a battery protector from Maplin that only allows a supply through if the battery voltage is good. It has a cigar lighter plug at one end and a socket at the other. I cut off the plug to attach spade terminals.

I tested the Fortuna with the external antenna first and found it used about 100 milliamps so I knew it would not drain my battery.

At first I took the Fortuna battery out but then realised that I would have to put it back in whenever I use the Fortuna away from the car. The Fortuna battery is always fully charged for me and it means that the fix isn't lost when I start the car and cause a volt drop.

It works perfectly well. I use a HP iPaq hx4700 on a Seidio mount. I can connect from in the house too.

Regards, John.
