As a thickie, I need to know how I would download the Pocket GPS World database to a unit and have that unit use that database instead of the database already in it.
I have a Snooper Indago but wish to buy a second unit and D/L the Pocket GPS World database to it.
Does the Pocket GPS World database know all UK speed limits and could it be made to warn me if I drift over a limit?

What device?

We don't (and cannot) support Snooper devices.

It is a camera database not a speed limit database.

garmin devices will give you an 'overspeed' warning when you go over the limit set in teh speed camera database, but as darren says, this is only for speed camera locations and not for everywhere.
there are units that will warn when over the speed limit but as you may be aware, map data isn't the most up to date and that also includes the data they have for road speeds!! (ie don't trust it!)

Darren, I haven't yet bought a second unit; I was hoping to get one which warns of speed above limits. It is clearly far more stressful to drive around North Wales (and elsewhere) with constant looking at the speedo instead of simply driving to the conditions.
BTW, my Indago warned me of a "high risk area" the other night and said the limit was 40. It was in fact 30. Otherwise the Indago is very good; if only it had the speed limit warnings. Thanks to you and MaFt for your replies. |

TomTom devices have speed limit data for much of the country as do Garmin. Both can be configured to alert if you exceed the limit or a set speed but you have to appreciate that the data can be wrong or indeed missing in some places.
At the end of the day the MKI eyeball is the only thing you can rely on.

This maybe model / series specific but my Garmin 760T does show the speed limit for the roads i am on but there is no way to set an alert if i go over the limit. Nor can you set an alert if you go over a pre-set speed.
TomTom are different and the 2 i have borrowed both warning when you went over the limit. |

I don't have my 765T here with me but I'm pretty sure it has the overspeed warning?

It alerts you if you go over the posted / indicated speed limit?
There have always been sporadic "Speed Alert: xx MPH Ahead" warnings that flash up on Garmins from the days of the i3, which have nothing to do with either Garmin's camera database (the i3 doesn't support it), the PGPSW camera database (it happens even without the database being loaded) or the speed limit of the road (the road speed limit alerts were only added in a limited fashion in the 2008 maps and the more extensively in the 2009 maps.)
If the 765T does have this feature it would be interesting because it's the first time I've heard of any Garmin product having that feature and the website and manual make no mention of it... |

A local cop has replied to my question thus:
My Satnav does that very thing, and damned annoying it is too!
Essentially, you program in your chosen speed limit and when you exceed that limit – off goes the bong! Only one limit can be applied – it’s a manual thing as opposed to the unit reading the limit by GPS (mine’s a Navman)
That would be of no use at all would it. |

TomTom have the option to warn when exceeding the speed limit (where known) or a pre-configured speed chosen by you.
