|
|
I've got a TomTom 720 which will not switch on and bring up the application. All I get is a picture on the TomTom in the dock with a Red Cross and a message saying Please wait... nothing more.
I'm using TomTom Home 2.5,
In the App the Device Pull down menu is grayed out.
When I click on 'Update my Device' it comes up connect your navigation device to the computer.
The 2 drive letters come up in Windows but I'm unable to browse either.
When I try it with an empty SD Card, The TomTom icon in the system tray states the device is connected, but still all the above points are true and I unable to do anything with the device.
Is there anything I can do, or is it a case of returning the unit. |

Hi Devastator
If I was in your position I would first turn the device on and then give a soft reset.
The device may then run but if not I would then place the device in the cradle and go to Windows Explorer. The drive should show up on the screen (mine is drive ‘K’).
If the contents of the drive are shown I would personally delete the lot and reinstall from my backup. I trust that you do have a backup? _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Wow, appreciate the quick replies
The Red Cross I get is Static and does Not Flash.
I've tried both those links but neither helped. I am not able to access my device through TomTom Home 2.5 at all. Also when I try and access the disk or do a check on the drive letter Windows cannot access the device.
No Backup as unit was new and i've not got it to boot even once or show up in windows so I can take a backup...
When it's not in the cradle, all I get is a Yellow screen with a picture of the TomTom and No Red Cross ...
??

Hi Devastator
I Have no doubt that you are feeling a bit downhearted at this present time but every cloud has a silver lining. If, as you say, it has never booted and if you don’t get anywhere this evening I would return the device to the shop first thing tomorrow. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Cheers, and appreciate the community spirit on this board, reckon I'll return it tomorrow and request a new one. Will have to resort to plan B for Tuesdays trip..... print out the route from Google maps and then attempt to not crash my car while looking at them on the passenger seat .... arrgggghhhhhh... (hope my printer doesn't pack in) |

One more thought......if you got the unit yesterday, did you charge the unit for 4 hours before trying anything? _________________ David |

From what's been written so far, I'm not sure if you've said whether it actually works or not when it's NOT connected to the PC.
With it connected to just the cigarette lighter power cable (and with the car ignition on), does it start up then? If not, try a press of the reset hole in the base with a paperclip and then switch on again.
If your problems are only when you try to connect to the PC and use "Home", then that's a different issue. |

No issue was same'ish in all scenarios.
Connected to PC
On it's Own
Connected to power source in car
I've requested an RMA, CVityLink were round within 30mins and have taken package back, should get a New unit within a couple of days...
Thanks All. |
