hello all

As title says new x30 owner and unsure of what is the correct way to format and set up the unit with cameras and POI,s from this site.

All i have done apart from switch it on and play around with it is install the TT home CD on computor.

I understand it will req map and software update,is there anything on here to guide me through,(do's and don't)?

Obviously i want to install GPSW cameras locations and POI's on the unit,is there a step by step?

I noticed this x30 came with a SD card in it, what does this hold? maps, software.Does this need to be removed if up dating unit?

I already have a Nuvi760 which looks easier to set up and format than this x30 unit.

All help and pointers gratefully recieved, found odd thinks on here using search option but i am still confused .

Thanks
Colin

A user manual can be found here. That should be a start.

You will find the sd slot has a piece of plastic in it, not a real sd card. Protection during delivery.

The first thing to do is to connect it to your computer and take a back-up of the entire contents of the device. Do this using Windows Explorer, not using TT Home.

There are also FAQs at the top of this forum (here) which contain links to several easy guides on how to do many of the things you may need to do.

In particular, FAQ 4 explains all about adding the speed camera database (and other POIs - they are essentially the same).

There are loads of people who have never read the manual, so it's not difficult to "format" and "setup" the device. In fact, zillions simply tap the screen and then tap the icons to follow through and go somewhere in blissful ignorance of all the fancy stuff.

AFTER you've done the backup recommended by daggers (with Win Explorer), just give it a playing with.....

Tap the screen, then tap the Navigate to icon, then the Address icon, then the Postcode icon, then tap the letters and numbers of somebody's postcode (but without the space), then tap Done until it starts telling you to get going. You'll be amazed at how simple it is AND compared with that Nuvi, how much better information you get on the screen. To get rid of that lot, tap the screen, then tap the right arrow until you see "Clear Route" and tap that and you're back to square one.

Then go read the FAQs like he said.

You couldn't pay me to take that Nuvi off your hands to replace my GO.
