I think I'd rather touch the screen & know my TomTom will do what I want rather than shout at it & hope it does what it's told Rolling Eyes

And TomTom have confirmed that all being well, news of the 8.15 map will follow in a day or so.

The v810.1907 maps appeared in the very beginning of September (I downloaded mine on the 6th) so we should expect the v815 maps in around three weeks if they stick to the same update frequency we've seen earlier (four times a year).
The map supplied with the x40 devices, which include the 24/7 data, seem to be v810.1934 so the update from 1907 to 1934 must have added the extended IQRoutes data.

Interesting (and a bit of a shame) that 8.3 retains the 'old' icons rather than the refreshed icons as implemented on the x40 series (which ships with 8.2!).

Perhaps TomTom see it as another differentiator between the two ranges?

I agree. The x40 icons are much better. I have just updated and the icons on my x30 are definately the older ones. I know it's only cosmetics but I think the x40 icons look much better.

Done the upgrade on TT720, everything appears to be working as was.
Copied the Mapsettings.cfg file over and the 2 mobiles at the top of the road are banging out the warning, so assume all the others are OK.

A reasonable assumption Wink

The previous comments about the POI icons looking different on the map, is this due to them appearing as if they are now on stilts? i.e. a pointer applied to the base of the icon, some icons look better this way, others without a solid border can appear a little strange.

Re the menu icons from the previous page made by Carl, I do have this working but it isn't 100% as yet, and if Virgin don't fix my internet link it won't get worked on tonight - Mike

Don't you only have to do this when a map is updated? My favourites and everything else still remained from the previous version, or is there something else it does?

Cheers

Carl

P.S. The POIs now have a pointer at the bottom, so are slightly raised, as Mike said, I reckon they look ok.

TomTom always insisted that 4GB SDHC was the largest you could use in these models.
Larger ones seemed to work OK to READ for mp3s etc. but there were big issues with WRITING to memory locations above 4GB.

You still have to interact with the touch screen far too often to justify calling it voice control IMHO.

Totally agree, if you have to touch the screen it's hardly voice control. It's certainly an improvement though.

Perhaps if they were to have a voice activating word instead of having to touch the screen it would help.

"Tomtom....Day colors"
"Tomtom....Switch 3D View"

Wishful thinking I guess Rolling Eyes

I have just upgraded to 8.3 on my 530 but it has taken me over an hour to do it due to numerous problems.

Installed 8.3 and it then decided that I did not have a traffic subscription. 'my services' was showing that there is no information available.
Reset device and managed to get it to connect and update the subscription information. However then whenever I tried enabling traffic it would say it was enabled and the bar would appear but within a second it would just disappear again.
I thought I would restore from a previous backup but after doing that I got the 'traffic is not available in your area' message and 'an error occured on the tomtom server' when trying to view my services.
So tried upgrading again including repairing the phone and eventually this worked.

My suggestion (back in the x20 era) was to provide 100% voice control AND not have it confused by MikeAlder's funny accent...
"TomTom Menu" which would throw up the first menu screen laid out with numbers instead of the icons, as it does with navigation dialogue ...

1. Navigate to
2. Find alternative
3. Help me.
4. Mobile Phone
5. Change preferences
6. More ...

Activate the choice by simply speaking the number of the action.

All subsequent screens to use the same method and you can do anything. 'Course, I'm a Brain Surgeon and part time Rocket Scientist, so I don't expect TomTom to work this out without coming to me and buying the idea off me for the price of a new GO940 Live.

I love app 8.300 Love it - at long last, the hide lane images have stayed hidden. Yippee!! I think.

Edited to correct omission ... coming to me and buying the idea off me for the price of a new GO940 Live which works.

I have just upgraded as well, but I had to dump a lot of stuff to do it Crying

I got a message saying "Insufficient space you need to delete some unused items"

I only have one voice loaded. I decided to dump all the car icons apart from the one that I use.
NOT ENOUGH.
The shut down picture went next!
STILL NOT ENOUGH
"You need to delete 10Mb"

I had a Europe Map overlay, which I believe is just a satellite picture of Europe @17 Mb, so that got the chop as well!

If this happens every time there is an upgrade, I'll be buying a 780 before long. I have an sd card slot, but this is only used for music and photos, I cannot run if I copy my map to a large card, can I, I think that's right??

With the x20 and x30 models you CAN indeed copy just the specific map folder to the sd card and the firmware will treat the sd as additional memory to the core.
