I am feeling really thick at the moment. I have downloaded HOME 2.4 and connected. It tells me that I have a map (V720) that is one quarter old. They are offering updates at £9.95 / quarter for £49.75???
Does anyone know which map they are offering me?
Is it the V720 which I already have or is it the latest V810 which is listed at £79.75?

Rolling Eyes Talk about confused or what! I bet they wrote it in Dutch first, then doubled it just to have a laugh at the dopes like me!

I have contacted Joker Customer Service Joker with the same question.

It'll be 8.10, as that's exactly what it said for mine. However, I can't get ALG to work :-(

Evening all,

Will Tomtom now have to commit to certain dates for map release, because I would imagine people will expect 4 updates per year. Now I am sure that there is some legalese somewhere where they can deny this, and it does simply say that they are breaking the cost down into quarters, with no mention of the number of maps you are going to get, but you will always have access to the latest version

and...

this is now going to be ongoing past these first 4 quarters and as you are under no obligation (I take it) to resubscribe to this service I would think this will sell more maps, not less. Maybe if they have a quarterly payment scheme that would look even more favourable

and...

As someone who has recently upgraded to the latest maps, if I sign up now I would see no benefit until the next round of maps, so there is no need?

and...

it is great to see them do something like this

Cheers

Carl

If you read my posts you'd know Wink On page one of this thread I explained the breakdown of the charges, there are two parts, the initial map update to bring you to the current latest and then you add the cost of 4 x quarterly updates = subscription.

So they are charging you £9.95 for the initial map update + 4 x £9.95 for future updates.

As you have the latest map there is no initial update charge, you just pay the subscription fee for future updates.

If you choose to wait then when the next map is released you would need to buy that at the going rate (or possibly discounted as currently) AND pay the subscription fee.

@Darren,
I saw your pricing table and I read how it is worked out, but remember I am still being thick!
If the price they are offering, is for the latest map (V810) then it looks too good to be true, hence why I am here asking silly questions!
If they are offering to sell me a map I already own, I'm not at all sure about that.

It is cheaper than the old map pricing structure but they have the benefit of knowing how many people are locked in to future updates, handy for planning and capacity planning.

They are not selling you your current map, if the one you have now is the latest then there is no initial update charge, just the subscription costs for the 4 x updates. You only pay an initial update fee if your map is older. Not sure how else I can explain this to make it clearer?

Apart from the fortune it'll cost me (serves you right for having several devices I hear you say!) ....

I have a GO920, purchased on 28th December 2007, still with its original W&CE map, v710.1576 whose .pna file seems to be dated September 2007.

How old is my map? - Nine months (3 quarters) from when I bought it = 60% discount, or 12 months (4 quarters) from date of .pna file = 50% discount? There's a tenner in it for me and a hassle in it for TomTom arguing about age of map for recent (but older than LMG period) purchases of old shelf stock.

Anyway, the crafty ones amongst us have to time their next new device purchase to just before the next new map release, so as to get it free under LMG.

It will be the LATEST map available, why not look at Tomtom.com doesn't it tell you if you go through the maps link what the latest map is for that type of map (W & CE, GB & ROI etc.) and your particular device (x10, x20 etc.). Therefore if you do that, and it is a V8 map that is the latest, that is what you will get, if it is still at V7.20 then that is the latest map available and that is what you will get.

Is that right?

Cheers

Thanks for that Carl, that is how I thought that it would work, but it just seems far too good to be true. It's like Christmas and my birthday all together.

Merry Xmas Happy Birthday!

It looks as tho the same deal has not been rolled out for North America. After updating to 2.4, I'm only offered the latest map for $129 US, no mention of quarterly updates.
