Hi folks..

I have a new Garmin Zumo 550..

I have been trying to load various POI's fro this site into it all afternoon. Crying or Very sad

The Garmin POI loader tells me each time that the operation was successful. When I do a search however for one of the new locations.. for example a "Halford's" branch near where I live It can't find a thing! Does not exist. Yet I can see the updated POI file in the Garmin/poi

Tried maybe 20 times today.. always getting 'success' message but the Zumo cannot find any of them at all. Nothing whatsoever.

Would it be better to try the GPX method using Mapsource? If so, does anyone know of a GPX file I could download that contains standard UK information for the Greater London area as the one I see are mostly for the North of England and I don't really want to ride 190 miles to buy a frozen chicken from Aldi if you know what I mean.

I sent a PM to several Admins in here but have not had any replies..
I appreciate they must be busy.

Thank you in advance.. Confused

Hi there.
Your PM to me was timed at 7:22pm, I'm starting this reply at 7:52pm, so I'm not doing badly! We are pretty quick, but half an hour is asking an awful lot of us (and when I say "we" and "us" I mean everybody on the forum, not just Team and Moderators). The recommendations for getting help are that you post in a forum - like you have done right now, as PMs are restricted to just the one person you address, so will depend on that person looking at their computer AND knowing an answer to your problem.

I fear I cannot help you because the only experience I have is of the TomTom devices.

I was going to give you the link to our POIs, but it seems you've already been there.

I expect someone with experience will be along soon to help you out - I did once have a Garmin Nuvi myself (only for a day), but did succeed with POILoader on it, so I'm guessing you've missed something - the only thing I know about POILoader is that when you upload POIs it completely replaces all existing POIs on your device. If you loaded them all one set at a time, you'll only finish up with one set, wiping out all the previous ones.

If you look at their "signatures" at the bottom of posts , most of them will say something like "PLEASE use the forums for general questions, we cannot reply to every PM we receive".

This is what the forums are here for, so EVERYONE gets a chance to either help or be helped by the topics posted.

Opps, my apologies gentlemen.

Thanks for you tips and replies though.

Yes I even called Garmin and they talked me through the whole process, making me aware that you need all your POI;s in the same directory to start and that they overwrite the existing one etc..

Still It would not work.. Perhaps there's something wrong with the POI format I'm downloading from here.

Any ideas on the GPX/Mapqueat silution?

Cheers..

Where are you looking for the Custom POIs?

Page 56 of the manual shows the Custom POIs should be under Where To?, Extras, Custom POIs. They will not mix with the other POIs.

I replied to the PM you sent me yesterday evening at 7:39 pm. As of a few minutes ago this reply was still in my Outbox, though.

Confused

Only just seen those replies.. Seeing as they are all from the UK it's a bit odd that they were all sent between 4:30 and 5:30am! Yeah right..

I sat with the page loaded for hours and nothing came in to my inbox during that time.

Hmm. something very odd about this indeed...

Anyway thank you though for your time..

Reading them now..

Look at the bottom right of your screen shot. Your times are 9 hours ahead. You need to correct your Profile so the times display correctly. Should be

All times are GMT + 1 Hour

not

Quote:
All times are GMT + 10 Hour

As MIke says what's the situation.

What time zone have you selected in your profile?

But did you keep refreshing the page?

And have you got "Yes" selected for "Notify on new Private Message" in your profile, then you'll receive an email alerting you to a new PM.

ScrapDog, could you please reduce the size of the image you posted to the stipulated size, as it increases the width of the whole page, making it necessary to scroll to read the posts.

From the Forum Rules:

If you link to any images in a post they should be no more than 400 pixels in width and no more than 800 pixels in height. Images that exceed this size limit will be removed.

Thanks. Smile

Ok, some progress..

I have manged to get the POI's to show up, but only if I go to:

Tools/extras/Custom POI's

They are all listed there.. however there is no 'search' option and no 'spell name' option.

I cannot search for "Halford's" for example.. I have to open the:

Shopping - Consumer - Other - PGPSW list and scroll all the way down till a Halfords appears.

My Garmin Zumo's search capability cannot access or search this data base at all.

For a UNIT that cost almost £500 this seems a pretty primitive way to find what I'm looking for in my own town.

Not to mention the dozens of instances of "Copyright PocketGP" 2.7 miles North West?? What's that I wonder?.. and why so many copies?

-----------------------------

I think the best thing is for me to go through the laborious and lengthy process of creating my own GPX file in MapSource and importing it into my unit..

Sigh.. OK here goes..

Thanks for your time folks..

"Sorry my mistake" ???

Sorry but what 'mistake' are you referring too? If referring to the image I posted, I post in dozens of forums and that's a pretty standard size image. It displayed just fine on my monitor.

I deleted it anyway probably at the same time as you were tinkering with it.
Not a big deal..
