Press release: TeleAtlas’ Innovative Mobile Mapping Van Deployed in Thailand

Mobile Mapping Van Launches in Bangkok; Fitted with Advanced Technologies to Create Richer Digital Maps and Enable Advanced Navigation and Safety Applications

Bangkok, Thailand, 28 January 2009 — TeleAtlas, a leading global provider of digital maps and dynamic content for navigation and location-based solutions, has announced the company’s innovative Mobile Mapping technology will be deployed in Thailand, further demonstrating its commitment to delivering high quality digital map data around the world. The van in Thailand will focus on collecting data to ensure changes to the map are accurately reflected and to help generate advanced map features such as 3D landmarks, city blocks with textures and junction views to help generate maps that accurately reflect the urban landscape for a superior, safer navigation experience.

TeleAtlas currently has nearly 50 Mobile Mapping Vans driving around the world, traveling hundreds of thousands of kilometers each year. The company’s fleet in APAC has already covered Singapore and Taiwan. The deployment of the Mobile Mapping Van in Thailand marks the company’s commitment to deliver advanced features to customers worldwide.

Better Maps Developed for a Better Navigation Experience
Tele Atlas Mobile Mapping Vans are outfitted with cameras including one or more stereoscopic camera pairs, differential GPS hardware, an inertial measurement unit and computers to capture highly-detailed imagery of the entire road network and its surroundings. The Mobile Mapping Van fleet also includes vehicles equipped with lasers and ladybug 360° cameras. This combination of technology enables the vans with the unique ability to deliver a multi-dimensional, 360 degree view of the road for a high level of quality detail and precision at exceptional speed – up to 5 times faster – and more efficient than traditional vehicle collection methods.

Tele Atlas Mobile Mapping Van in Thailand will be used to verify changes in the road network, to determine width of roads and height of bridges, and to record the slope and banking of roads. The laser technology in combination with high resolution imagery will help generate texture of buildings for virtual reality 3D city modeling. This wealth of sophisticated context-specific map data that can be integrated with on-board automotive electronics, is already having an impact on both vehicle safety and efficiency, and is anticipated to have far-reaching effects on emerging Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) applications.

“Thailand is a key area in the automotive market and has strong potential in the burgeoning wireless market as well – both of which are critical to our industry partners as both in-car navigation systems and mobile applications rely on a rich combination of content to help users find a destination and arrive there safely,” said Tele Atlas Asia Pacific Chief Operating Officer Mark Steele. “Just over one year ago, we announced the formation of Tele Atlas Thailand. This announcement strengthens our commitment to Southeast Asia. We look forward to further supporting our regional customers to meet their needs for high quality digital maps and dynamic content with rich road network attributes and visual enhancements.”

In addition to the strength of its growing mobile subscriber base, Thailand currently represents a vital market for both automotive production and sales in Southeast Asia, with Global Insight estimating 590,000 passenger vehicles were sold in Thailand by the end of 2008, and expecting this figure to rise to 637,000 by the end of 2011.

Tele Atlas Thailand, a joint venture formed in 2007 between Tele Atlas and MappointAsia (Thailand), focuses on the production, maintenance, upgrade and commercialization of a navigable database, which is designed to be fully aligned with Tele Atlas’ global map offering and seamlessly integrated in the Southeast Asia regional solution. Based in Bangkok, the joint venture also serves as a regional competency center for the company to support all operations and coverage expansion for Tele Atlas in the Southeast Asia region.

Press release: Nabbit Announces its Native iPhone App Availability in Apple® App Store

NewswireToday - /newswire/ - Eagan, MN, United States, - iPhone users can “Nabb™” songs and ads from the radio with the new application.

Nabbit has announced the availability of their native iPhone application that allows users to tag, or what we call “Nabb,” anything they hear on the radio. Nabbit for the iPhone is a free download and is available now via the Apple® App Store.

Using the GPS capabilities of the iPhone, Nabbit will sense your current location and load the radio stations available in that market. You can then “tune in” to the station you are listening to by dragging the radio dial. Nabbit will display information about the song or ad that is currently airing. Press a button to Nabb the song or ad. Nabbit saves the information about the song or the ad on your iPhone. Saving the information on the iPhone allows users to download the Nabbed songs or google ads at a time when it is convenient for them.

Nabbit is also working with advertisers to create special offers for Nabbit users. Using the Nabbit Ads platform, advertisers can create interactive campaigns that integrate radio, mobile, online and viral advertising mediums. Nabbit users will be able to Nabb these ads, save them on their iPhone, and act on them at a time that works for them.

“Nabbit is a solution that allows the consumer to connect their life to the Web,” said John Freund, Chief Nabber at Nabbit.com. “Too many times I have been listening to the radio and heard a song or an ad that I wanted to remember, only to forget it 15 seconds later. Nabbit allows me to remember anything I hear, and act on it when I’m ready. Think of Nabbit as the bookmarking solution for traditional media.”

Nabbit is a free service that works with any mobile phone. Along with the iPhone version announced today, Nabbit is also available in a browser-based version or as a Java™ application that runs on any Java enabled phone. People who prefer to send text messages can text in the frequency of the station they are tuned to and Nabbit will text them back with information about what is currently playing. Nabbit will automatically register the texting user at Nabbit.com, save their Nabbed content for them online, and text them back with the userid and password required to retrieve and view their Nabbed content.

Nabbit is also integrated into many of today’s popular social media sites. Nabbed songs and ads can be shared via the Nabbit application for Facebook® and through Twitter. A Facebook user who is also using Twitter can Nabb a song that will be posted as a Newsfeed item in Facebook and posted in the “Friends Nabbs” section of Nabbit for Facebook. The song will also be “Tweeted” to all of the followers of that user in Twitter. Nabbit is a great way to share information that is important to the Nabbit user with all of their friends.

Press release: GPS Tracking Systems Cut Costs, Increase Productivity for Law Enforcement

Burlingame, CA (OPENPRESS) -- Economic distress, recession, and dwindling budgets are prompting law enforcement departments to turn to GPS tracking systems and GPS tracking software for assistance in tracking vehicles, cutting department costs and monitoring officers.

Gilbert Walz, CEO of Tracking the World, Inc., a leading developer of GPS tracking systems and GPS tracking software, said law enforcement officials have long used GPS tracking devices as part of their investigations, but have most recently begun using them as a way of saving money. “GPS tracking systems are quite versatile. They can be used for everything from finding stolen cars and recovering stolen merchandise to saving gas.”

Walz said GPS tracking systems equipped with hibernating battery packs can save hundreds of staff hours on law enforcement investigations. As an alternative to exhausting human resources with hours of tracking suspect vehicles, covertly-installed GPS tracking devices can alert officers when a vehicle is moved or leaves a pre-determined area. “Hibernating battery packs allow GPS tracking systems to operate only when they are needed. This conserves battery power, allows the device perform longer on a single charge, and reduces the need for human monitoring,” said Walz. Similarly, law enforcement departments sometimes place GPS tracking systems equipped with battery packs within shipments of retail merchandise suspected to be the target of thieves.

Other uses for GPS tracking systems within law enforcement departments include assistance with day-to-day operations, such as mileage reports, and tracking officer activity. When trackers are combined with GPS tracking software, users have access to historically-archived data that can be used to create automated reports, eliminating the need for costly manual recordkeeping.

In addition, GPS tracking software is often used as a cost-effective aid in dispatching law enforcement officers, by allowing dispatchers to easily select the closest and fastest response unit for each call, resulting in fuel conservation and reduced wear and tear on patrol vehicles. Walz said the wide range of uses for GPS tracking systems and GPS tracking software make the technology an ideal choice any law enforcement department. “We offer options to meet the needs of any department, from the largest cities to the smallest rural communities.”

TrackingTheWorld, Inc., is a leading developer of GPS technology for law enforcement, business, and personal use. For more information about GPS tracking systems and GPS tracking software, please visit the company’s website at http//www.trackingtheworld.com

Press release: 03.02.09 ABI Research Survey: Nearly Half of Respondents View MIDs as Cell Phone Replacements

NEW YORK - February 3, 2009 -
In November 2008 ABI Research carried out a survey of more than 1000 adult consumers in the United States, aimed at identifying their attitudes to netbooks and Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs). The results are summarized in a Research Brief on MIDs which provides critical insights into consumer perceptions of these products

MIDs have been proposed by some as cell phone replacements. Does the public agree? In this survey, almost half did, lending support to models incorporating cellular voice, while 34% said they would continue to use a cellular handset.

“This is going to become a question for MID vendors and consumers alike,” says Philip Solis, principal analyst at ABI Research. “There will be little difference between a smartphone such as the Palm Pre which uses an OMAP 3 processor and a MID with cellular voice, except for screen size. Understanding of what consumers want from stand-alone MIDs without cellular voice will be important.”

ABI Research believes that some people will value a separate device with a bigger screen for the web browsing, that they can choose when to carry. The more interesting promise offered by MIDs without cellular voice will be their repackaging in the form of specialized Internet-connected CE devices such as media players or personal navigation devices.

This Research Brief, “Consumer Impressions of Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs)” address consumers’ levels of interest in purchasing these devices, expected usage patterns, preferred applications, size and form factor, operating systems, affordability, and more. Each survey result is accompanied by concise interpretations of its significance.

It forms part of the firm’s MIDs and Mobile CE Research Service which also includes other Research Briefs, Research Reports, Market Data, ABI Insights, ABI Vendor Matrices, and analyst inquiry support.

ABI Research provides in-depth analysis and quantitative forecasting of emerging trends in global connectivity. From offices in North America, Europe and Asia, ABI Research’s worldwide team of experts advise thousands of decision makers through research and advisory services in seven key practice areas. Press release: 04.02.09 Garmin® and ASUS® to Create Garmin-Asus Line of Co–branded LBS-centric Mobile Phones

Cayman Islands and Taipei, Taiwan/February 4, 2009/Business Wire — Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN) and ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (TAIEX: 2357) today announced a strategic alliance that will leverage the companies’ navigation and mobile telephony expertise to design, manufacture and distribute co-branded location-centric mobile phones. Garmin and ASUS have already begun joint development on a diverse mobile phone product line, which will be known as the Garmin-Asus nüvifone™ series. The companies expect to bring to market several Garmin-Asus nüvifone models in 2009, and a new Garmin-Asus nüvifone model will be announced at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain, February 16-19, 2009.

“We believe that converged devices are an emerging opportunity,” said Dr. Min Kao, chairman and CEO of Garmin Ltd. “This alliance is advantageous to both companies because it allows us to combine our resources and establish a strong foundation from which we will innovate and introduce the world to the benefits of LBS-centric mobile phones. We’ve been working with ASUS for over one year on the initial nüvifone that was announced in 2008 on the basis of an ODM relationship. Learning from this experience, we concluded that by leveraging and combining our respective industry-leading areas of expertise at a higher level, we will be able not only to significantly expand our product line, but also to shorten our product development time. We believe that through this strategic alliance we are uniquely positioned to deliver the world’s best integrated and most compelling GPS-enabled mobile devices.”

“This alliance allows ASUS and Garmin to seamlessly combine the strengths of both companies to offer market leading mobile phone solutions that are of the best design and highest quality. ASUS and Garmin both believe strongly in the continuous investment of R&D resources to unfailingly provide leading-edge innovations to people and businesses,” said Jonney Shih, CEO of ASUSTeK Computer Inc. “Through this alliance, our companies will continue to develop innovations that simplify life. Our technologies should accommodate our customers, not the other way around. We believe all devices should perform and communicate seamlessly not just anytime and anyplace, but in real time, in real places, and we’re confident the nüvifone series will meet this objective.”

All Garmin-Asus nüvifone devices will continue the product vision of the original nüvifone and will be LBS-centric devices that seamlessly connect, communicate and navigate. The original Garmin nüvifone that was announced in 2008 will be re-branded as the Garmin-Asus nüvifone G60. The Garmin-Asus nüvifone G60 is expected to be delivered in the first half of 2009, and additional information about the Garmin-Asus nüvifone G60 will be released at the Mobile World Congress trade show.

LBS functionality is core to the Garmin-Asus nüvifone series, which will offer the same
turn-by-turn, voice-prompted navigation features found on high-end Garmin portable navigation devices (PND). It has preloaded maps and millions of points of interest that allow drivers to quickly find a specific street address, establishment’s name or search for a destination by category. In addition, the nüvifone includes quick access to online points of interest through internet enabled local search. The nüvifone harnesses the power of the worldwide web and information about local merchants and attractions is continually updated. The nüvifone also features Ciao!™, a social networking application that bridges the gap between multiple location based social networks and integrates them seamlessly into one device.

The Garmin-Asus alliance was disclosed during a press conference in Taiwan on February 4, 2009. Analysts or journalists unable to attend the Garmin-Asus announcement in Taiwan are invited to participate in a webcast or via phone on February 4, 2009, at 11:00 am EST
(10:00 am CST). Webcast details are available at www.GarminAsus.com/pressroom.

Garmin-Asus nüvifone models will be on display at the Garmin-Asus booth at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain, February 16-19, 2009 (7C37, hall 7). Journalists should contact the Garmin or Asus media contacts to arrange a live demonstration or interviews. Additional information is available at www.GarminAsus.com.

Navman helps romantics find their way to unique Valentine’s Day locations
London, 5 February 2009: GPS pioneer Navman shows romantics how they can make the most of their Navman sat-nav device when deciding on a Valentine’s Day weekend getaway.

Through its NavPix technology, users can access an online album of secluded geo-tagged locations not associated with a post code, to the UK’s top ten Romantic Hot Spots. While Navman’s Local Search service provides access to surrounding local amenities, such as the nearest florist, restaurant or hotel using a local directory search partner.
UK’s most romantic Valentine’s Day destinations:

· Lake Windemere, Cumbria
· Lake Vyrnwy, Wales
· Royal Crescent, Bath
· Scotney Castle, Kent
· Eilean Donan Castle, Scotland
· Killarney National Park, Ireland
· Stonehenge, Wiltshire
· The London Eye, London
· Gretna Green, Scotland
· Blarney Castle, Ireland
· Gwbert on Sea, Wales

The NavPix technology works by cleverly adding the coordinates of a destination onto an image of the chosen building or landscape, which is then saved onto the Navman device. Once stored, users simply scroll through their album, choose a destination via the image and Navman calculates the best route. Navman has created a dedicated Valentine’s NavPix album, available for budding romantics to view, share and download geo-tagged images via the NavPix Library.

To join the NavPix community, Navman users can also upload their own geo-tagged images or digital images (provided with location information) to Navman.com to create their own geo-tagged albums. As the NavPix Library also allows users to download and share thousands of images with others around the world, Navman invites romantics to contribute from their own Valentine’s Day experience by uploading local POI images for others to navigate to next year.

Press release: 06.02.09 WorldTracker PLD GPS Tracking System Features Emergency Voice Response, GPS Assist

Powerful combination for personal safety, covert tracking use.

Burlingame,CA—Touted as the most affordable and reliable GPS tracking system on the market today, the WorldTracker PLD continues as one of the most popular GPS tracking systems for personal safety use.

Developed by TrackingTheWorld Inc., the WorldTracker PLD features two-way voice communication, and one-way emergency listening capabilities, both unique features within the industry. According to Gilbert Walz, TrackingTheWorld CEO, the voice feature adds a peace of mind factor not found with other GPS tracking systems. “The ability to communicate with a loved one during an emergency, or listen in during an emergency, and GPS tracking technology offer a powerful combination for assuring personal safety,” said Walz.

In addition to the voice feature, the WorldTracker PLD GPS tracking system comes equipped with GPS assist technology, making it highly-reliable in common problem areas such as parking garages or large buildings. And, with quad-mode capabilities, the device will work from anywhere in the world.

According to Walz, the WorldTracker PLD is widely chosen for asset tracking and fleet management in addition to personal safety. “The device can easily be covertly-installed for tracking vehicles and heavy equipment with the use of GPS tracking software,” he said.

GPS tracking software works with satellite mapping technology to provide detailed location reports, automated alerts when an asset is moved, and historically-archived data.

The WorldTracker PLD utilizes a powerful 1340 mAh ,or optional 2000 mAh, rechargeable Lithium-ion battery to provide continuous GPS tracking, reporting and monitoring for up to 2 weeks.

When the GPS tracking device was reviewed in 2008 by PocketGPSWorld.Com, Lance Bendlin, editor, cited the WorldTracker PLD’s extended battery life. “The WorldTracker PLD overcomes one of the biggest limitations of the other (GPS tracking) devices … poor battery life. Properly configured the PLD will last a good week before needing a refill. Remarkably the PLD does not even have a power button or switch - it is always on,” wrote Bendlin.

TrackingtheWorld, Inc is a global leader in the development of GPS tracking systems and fleet tracking software. For more information about the WorldTracker PLD, distributor opportunities, or turnkey private label GPS tracking websites, please visit http://www.trackingtheworld.com

Iron Dog Racers Safer with Iridium-Enabled Tracking Technology

CHANDLER, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Competitors in the grueling Tesoro Iron Dog snowmobile race will be in sight at all times during their 1,971 mile competition across the Alaskan wilderness, thanks to an Iridium®-enabled tracking system supplied by World Communication Center (WCC).

As the “World's Longest, Toughest Snowmobile Race,” this six-day competition starts February 8. Competitors will travel north from Big Lake, near Anchorage, to Nome, then south to historic downtown Fairbanks, Alaska.

The 42 two-member teams will defy sub-zero cold, poor visibility and deep snow to push their snowmobiles and bodies to reach the finish line.

Through a partnership with Applied Satellite Engineering (ASE) of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Ontec Technologies of Phoenix, Ariz., WCC is outfitting each snowmobile team with ASE “SBD Pro” units, which utilize Iridium short-burst data (SBD) service to send GPS position information, permitting officials and spectators to track the actual position of each race team. WCC's position reports will be viewable via the Tesoro Iron Dog Website using Google Earth at www.irondog.org and www.wcclp.com/irondog.asp. Only Iridium is able to provide mobile satellite communications services that reach anywhere on the globe, including the farthest reaches of Alaska.

“The tracking system provides a great safety feature,” says Laura Bedard, Executive Director, Tesoro Iron Dog. “The tracking system is designed to send a signal every five minutes to the ONTEC interface, allowing us to follow each race team. If a racer crashes or stops prior to a check point, the Iron Dog website confirms the last known position, giving the race headquarters a tracking point if an emergency situation arises.”

In the past, volunteers would radio-in when racers pass checkpoints, and another volunteer would enter the coordinates into the Iron Dog website manually. With the SDB Pro, the data is automatically updated, eliminating potential human error and providing timely information.

“The event showcases Iridium’s rugged and reliable two-way satellite data links as a communication tool. This allows others to know where people, vehicles and other assets are in remote locations,” says Teri Petram, WCC Sales and Marketing Director and Alaska native.

In addition to providing peace of mind to Iron Dog organizers, racing teams and spectators, the SBD Pro is amazingly customizable.

“It can be integrated into existing hardware applications to collect and transmit data such as latitude, longitude, temperature, heading, weight, humidity…virtually anything that you could apply a sensor to,” says Petram. “Because it is bi-directional, in-coming or out-going data can activate various applications in the field -- such as triggering alarms, kill switches, or map data back to another SBD Pro, not just headquarters.”

“Our ‘Machine-to-Machine’ or ‘M2M’ service is Iridium’s fastest-growing market, with revenues up 104 percent, and subscribers increasing more than 131 percent in the last year,” says Greg Ewert, Iridium Executive Vice President. “That is because Iridium is ideal as a reliable, critical lifeline, not only in action-packed races such as the Tesoro Iron Dog, but for enterprise organizations that need to track business assets around the world.”

“The application’s versatility makes it popular with extreme sports, such as the Tesoro Iron Dog, and military, maritime, trucking, weather and tourism,” says Petram. “The Tesoro Iron Dog allows us to showcase our specialty products in action under the most extreme environmental conditions in the world,” notes Petram. “We started with them in 2006 and look forward to another sensational year.”
