|
|
I bought my S30 6 months back. Already it's bit out of date as some new (major) roads around my town are not there.
How can I get an updated map?
Do I have to pay for update?

Firstly - Map updates are never free - the last one I can recall was back in 2002 when Navman released V2.0 of the iCN630......
Selling the old unit and buying new is often cheaper in the end than the cost of a map update.
Have a read of the numerous posts discussing maps, updates, new roads (an not so new roads), and the cost of map updates. I think you will find a update is an expensive way to deal to a couple of local roads that you know about. |

Map updates for the full s-series (excluding the just released 3D versions) will be available - complete with a new edition of the software (both on unit and desktop) around October - I am told around £69 for full European maps version
It will also include the Connected POIs (via bluetooth mobile on compt. devices / NavDesk on non connected units) and 3D landmarks
You could pay £99 and get a new Navman S30 3D with the new mapping, etc. today, however (UK only maps) |

Hmm, shouldn't have bought Navman then
I think Tom Tom map updates are free.
Is there any way to get "free" or "very cheap" maps from web/ebay? |

Well some are in the first 30 days or so after buying a TomTom, but generally you have to pay for the updates like most other makes.

Please be careful of how you word your requests. The phrase ""free" or "very cheap" maps from web/ebay" (especially with speech marks) is often seen as a request for pirate maps and we have a zero tolerance policy to Piracy. Apologies if that is not what you were after. |

Yes everyone charges for map updates, unless its included as part of the package (like Navigon Freshmaps - 2 years updates for around £99 / or free with their top end unit)
Other than Navigon Fresh, which is the most innovative map update solution out there, Navmans charge of £69 for Europe plus new unit software is competitive with other makes, and fair
Why should anything be "free"? |

The Map update for the S30 will not turn it in to an S30 3D, the S30 does not have the memory space. It will get new maps but will not get 3D POI, Navman connect or TMC compatability.
So £69 for maps
or £99 for S30 3D with 3D POI, Navman connect or TMC compatability. |
