Hi All Very Happy

Has anyone purchased a external battery for the x20's series if they have how much are they and would it be worth doing, as the 720 battery life is CRAP compared to the earlier models, TOMTOM state in there Manual up to 4-5 Hours no way, most i get out of mine on a good day is about 2 HRS. Thats with the screen turned down to 50% and volume 50% as well.

What's wrong with using the 12v cable? Otherwise something like this would work.[/list]

Hi Darren,

Twice in one day from hearing from you Very Happy Don't like cables everywere have heard about these external battery that gives you a extra 10 hrs. Also on some cars the voltage can surge if you stalled the engine and had the tomtom switched on, turn the key and bingo green light, this happened on the early models as so many was on flea bay. Not taking the risk.

You will get quite a few hours with one of These connected as they are rated at 5,4AHr

But seriously I run with the power cable connected at all times to each of my units, the x20 and x30 units are not good at hands free unless powered by the car charger, and you will notice the screen flicker in brightness when it issues a navigation prompt if running on battery power alone.

They supply the device with the charger lead and that is how it is supposed to be used, we don't get many posts on here about units that have been "fried" by the car electrical system so its certainly not a common fault - Mike

Each to their own I guess but a 12v charger cable is no more unsightly than an external battery pack and lead.

I use one of these - Self propelled, no need to carry it and it comes with a free TomTom ONE 3rd Edition as well. I use it to power three TomTom devices plus my Nokia mobile phone simultaneously - they all drop into mounts in it. The charge in it seems to last for ever. Costs about £7,500 if you can find a discount offer. Mr. Green

Dennis, I'm so glad you're back from holiday. I haven't laughed so much since before you went away!
