Just powered up my tomtom this morning (wife wanted to go on business trip) the battery has been flat for a while so charged it overnight. Switched it on nothing happened just gets to the splash screen. Tried the reset mentioned on here, then formatted it after backing up files.

Now have it working but there is no map of Western Europe only the canary isles where has my map gone?

If i plug it into my pc there is a western europe folder with loads of various files in including my speed camera files but if i view it thru tom tom home it says there is only canary isles how do i get my europe map back please.

spent 2 hours searching on here to no avail so have resorted to putting a post on here.

many thanks if you can help me

Do you have an earlier back up, made when the device was working properly, that you could copy back?

Have you got a backup you made with Explorer? If so, try copying the Western Europe map back onto the device. Using Explorer again of course.

Do you have a backup from before this problem arose? If that doesn't work I hope someone more knowledgeable than me will come along soon.

As for the product code, I'll also have to leave it to someone more knowledgeable. The only one I know about is the one shown on the device.

Have you tried a reset? Maybe also a restore to factory settings. Can you get the map to display if you "Operate my Go" using HOME?

When you displayed your software version did it also show your map version(s)?

I'm afraid if you don't have a Windows back up from before the problem arose I don't know what to suggest, but I'm sure one of the site's TomTom experts will be along shortly.

TomTom devices no longer need a product code.

On my tomtom when i open it in tt home it shows western europe maps version 650.1047 version.

if i open tt as an external drive it has a western europe map and there are loads of files

when i have tt on and select switch maps it only shows canary isles maps, there is no western europe displayed anywhere.

i have tried a 15 second reset restore to factory settings etc. i just wish i had a back up, will know in future if it ever gets working again.

anymore suggestions please?

Something isn't quite right here, you say the device is a 720 and you have a map version 650 of Western Europe installed?
The 720 was originally shipped with 705/1480 Western_Europe map, without a backup of the device from day one there is very little that can be done other than talk to TomTom (0845 161 0009) although I wouldn't hold out too much hope.

One thing you can try though, connect the device to the PC, shut down TomTom Home as it is not required for this part.
Use Windows Explorer to view the files in the Western_Europe map folder on the device, locate the file Western_Europe.pna and open it using NotePad, what information is in that file? - Mike

I still cannot understand the map version though - have you ever changed the map or installed a different one to that the device was supplied with - Mike
