The South West Coast Path National Trail has 630 miles of superb coastal walking from Minehead on the edge of the Exmoor National Park to the shores of Poole Harbour in Dorset with wonderful coastal scenery, wildlife and heritage. In 2007, readers of Country Walking, Britain’s biggest-selling walking magazine, voted it Britain’s Greatest Walk.

The Official Guide to the South West Coast Path has just added GPS downloads of over 60 short walks that take in some of the best sections, and the entire route split into 13 sections.

To ensure that these downloads are as useful as possible we would appreciate feedback (either through the forum or the website link), or reports of any problems in using it.

A timely post!

My wife and I were discussing the fact that we haven't been down that part of the country for a few years - so we will probably be visiting later in the year.

I would like to commend your site for the variety of walk types offered and the fact that the walk descriptions and GPS routes are free to everyone - unlike some other sites. I'm sure we will be trying out a few of the circular walks.

In my youth, when I was a little fitter than I am now, I walked the whole of the South West Coast Path at an average of 26 miles/day.

Don't let that put you off, though, because along its route there's probably something for everyone from short strolls to a decent day's hike.

A staple diet of Cornish Pasties (real pukka ones, not fake G******s imitations) for a few weeks sorts out the men from the boys.

It's not all cliffs and remote walks, the route takes you to coastal resorts like Bude, Newquay, Weymouth and if you get the time right, you can include St Michael's Mount (via the causeway). On the other hand, if you get your timing wrong, you may well be in for a detour around the danger area near Lulworth Cove.

This is something that I would strongly recommend, especially since it would be even more enjoyable to people not returning home to their 'A' level results.

Go ahead, make your day - this is something that you won't regret.

In my youth, when I was a little fitter and a little littler than I am now, I dreamed a little of doing that walk, small tent, big boots, just take my time. Something I regret not doing. I'd do it now if I were single - might not make it, but it'd be a lovely way to go out, wouldn't it?

If you've seen Dead Poets Society, you'll know the phrase "Carpe Diem" - seize the day.

...thus, all you need to do is pack a few things and head off for anything from a stroll along a beach to a cliff walk if you're feeling more energetic
