Hey guys
i have bought The map Western and central Euroup 7.15 for my tomtom 720, in their website it said that the map size is 1676 MB
when i bought the map and download them i can't copy the map into my tomtom because there is no enought space for the application and other things. so the map is 1910 MB

So my Questions what is the solutions? i have called tomtom and they said this the normal size of the map and my situation is never happend.

i am wondering if there somes file in the map who are no needed?

This kind of situation happens **all the time** with new maps and 720's 2 gig internal memory. And TT knows about the situation. The person you talked to may not know it, that's all.

Anyway, do yourself a favour and make like easier for yourself. Get a 4-gig sdhc card formatted for fat 32. Install the map there.

I think what has happened is they seem to have added the WRONG version of the Western and Central Europe map to your account.

The actual folder name of the version for a Go720 is "Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB" whereas the version for a 910/920 is "Western_and_Central_Europe" - it looks from your picture tha you have got this one!

I have the v715 "Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB" and it is 1.59 GB (1,716,666,722 bytes) which WILL fit on the internal memory, but TomTom accidentally gave ME the larger sized one previously too.

So, your options are to either get an SD card as suggested above and put the map on there, or tell TomTom they have made a mistake and given you the wrong map.

Go and get a 4GB or higher capacity memory card and put the map on to the card.

This will be much less hassle in the long run tan trying to get TT to change the map they have given you, what’s more, the map you now have contains considerably more detail than the other versions so I wouldn't waste the opportunity to use it - Mike

Do that and the device won't read the map so its not a good idea, you can recover some free storage space by deleting unused voices. But with the low cost of memory cards these days I would look at getting either a 2GB or 4GB SD card for the device - Mike

I've just bought a Sandisc 4gb SDHC card. Will it work ok without formatting? If not, can I format it in a Go 720? Or will I need to get a new card reader. Mine isn't an HC one so it obviously doesn't see the card.

As the card is 4GB it will be OK, it is only the 8GB or larger cards that need to be formatted in a card reader, just put it in the unit and it will work - Mike

Calomax

Sorry to jump on this topic but I have just bought my first sat nav, a Tom Tom 720 and I find the installed POI almost a waste of space. I want to download POI from this site and was worried about the amount of space they would take up as I was told by Tom Tom to buy a 2GB high speed SD card. I see that you have bought a 4GB one and wonders if it works ok as I would rather do that than have to delete files to make all fit on a 2GB one.

Sorry, I'm getting the 720 for my birthday and am still waiting for it. But there are a lot of posts on the forum that indicate that they can read & write to up to a 4 gb card fine.

It also seems as though they can read an 8gb card but can only write t0 4gb on it. But you can write files to the other 4gb using an SDHC compatible card reader. The 720 can then use the whole 8gb.

I'm sure someone else will come in to let you know if I'm wrong, or to confirm if I am right.

Thanks. I will now shop for the best deal on a 4 GB SDHC card. I was advised by Tom Tom to buy a 2GB card - now I know why I was told this site is the one I need to use and forget about the TT site.

Very Happy

By the way, the POI files are TINY compared to most of the other files on your TomTom.

For example the entire Speed Camera database from here is less than half a megabyte and most POIs are much smaller than that (e.g. the "Pubs" one I downloaded yesterday is only 75kb.

As this is my first sat nav, I am trying to get it to be as useful to me as possible. I would not like to rely on the installed POI's to locate a nice place to eat when I'm in a new area. The POI restaurants listed as within 9 miles of my Home are mostly fast food places whereas there are many popular eateries within one mile that are not listed.

I may well have sufficient space on the internal memory. It seems you download one category at a time and I can review the situation as I go along.
