There are no options within the software to turn the flashing off, and as it is coded into the software it will have remain that way - Mike

The TomTom database uses icons that are embeded into the application, they are only available for TomTom own use - Mike

And yes you can of course switch to TomTom's service, all you need do is sign-up with them and pay their subscription.

It's very much inferior to ours in the quality of the data but if the icons are more important to you.

But the big question is How are you using OUR database? You don't have a subscription Twisted Evil

It's supposed to be a warning so the flashing is desirable in my opinion and hardly distracting?

To the best of my knowledge you are the first to ever complain of this issue.

I agree with Darren.

No, no patronising here - I just believe in the common sense logic that in order to maximise the chance of drawing one's attention to something you FLASH on screen.

That way, those looking at the road ahead will notice the screen flashing, in the theory, as opposed to a static image on screen that those looking ahead will NOT notice.

Please remember here, that some people don't use actual sound alerts with this, or have short ones that might get missed.

The one thing I WOULD say however, is that after you get within a certain distance of the POI, the LARGE left hand corner image STOPS flashing and becomes static.

The bit that confuses me is that the distance whereby it STOPS flashing, 'seems' to be random each time.

Can anyone shed light on this? I have different warn distances set up for different speeds of camera, but even with the same speeds, it 'seems' as if the distance from it whereby it stops flashing, is random.

Correct, or is it just me going mad?

There is one thing I did try this morning on the way to work which was to install the TT Camera database on one of my devices and the speed camera warnings that do come up flash as well, so if you think the flashing icon is a bad idea bear in mind the TT Cams make it flash as well - Mike

nothing's wrong with that; but tomtom won't let you have an option to chnge it.

No argument intended, just my take on flashing (so to speak). The problem with on/off flashing is that the vital information that the flashing is trying to attract your attention to is only there for half the time, and when you glance down it's invariably off. I have come across this several times. A much better way of flashing things is by inverting the colours. The information is then there all the time and so is the 'flash' effect.
