No argument intended, just my take on flashing (so to speak). The problem with on/off flashing is that the vital information that the flashing is trying to attract your attention to is only there for half the time, and when you glance down it's invariably off. I have come across this several times. A much better way of flashing things is by inverting the colours. The information is then there all the time and so is the 'flash' effect.

Fully agree - like say a black and white image, becomes white and black - thus you can read BOTH alternates.

Good point indeed mate.

BUT,

As I mentioned in relation to my other problem (i.e. the distance when it STOPS flashing), then in effect TT is flashing to draw attention to those looking ahead.

Then, once they spot the flashing icon, they can then just wait patiently, until they reach the suitable distance it becomes solid, and read the info then - presumably in plenty time as they started slowing down as soon as they saw the flashing.

That's not being awkward - I agree with your post.

It's just a suggestion of something to try, and see if it works or not for you mate, as the distance it stops flashing for me seems so very random *Laughing Out Loud*

All POI warnings flash the icon in the top corner in the same way. No idea if other brands do it differently, but is it really such a big deal that you'd change to a different satnav over it?

i really hate the period of intervals beetwen flashes of that image
it shows image for 1 sec, after that it is gone for 3 seconds and so on

i like to be in charge of the unit, not the other way around Smile

Amen to that! (but not likely when TomTom are involved Crying or Very sad )

Intrigued by your timings though....
I just ran a demo to check, and I'd say that on my 720 the icons flash a complete on-off cycle once per second.
Wonder why yours seems to be so different?

I'd just like to get to the bottom of exactly when the large icon STOPS flashing, and becomes a solid image until you pass the POI.

Like I say, I can't for the life of me fathom out the "distance from" value or percentage, if it is based on whatever distance you set, whereby it stops flashing, and becomes solid *Laughing Out Loud*

Well, I was hoping demo mode would help but that's even worse - whenever "DEMO" flashes on, the alert vanishes Rolling Eyes .

Just remember everyone who is now being bugged by something that never occurred to them before (curse you shadamehr Wink ) that you should be keeping your eyes on the road over the weekend and not counting the flashes or checking distances on the TT. If you have a passenger who is used to your behaviour, get them to do the checking.

Personally, it's probably the same as the system where I've just started. If something unusual happens and I question it, the response is often "yes, it does that - sometimes". Crying or Very sad
