If anyone from TomTom is reading this:-

Pistol Shoot Out Gun Shoot Out Burn In Hell

Having jumped through hoops for three weeks, I went to download my treasured LMG update.
It warned me that it would take 1 hour and 50 mins, even though I am on broadband, but what the heck, it will be worth it!
I switched all my browsers and e.mail off, to concentrate all my bandwidth on getting this huge masterpiece.
Eight minutes, I said EIGHT MINUTES from the end it froze up and started counting upwards.
I think I may try again tomorrow morning about six am.

Crying Crying

When I fired up my X30 for first time I had

Maps; Western and Central Europe v805.1801

There was no paperwork in the box with refernce to LMG, only a page in the booklet telling you how to update within 30 days

Thanks mate.

So, even though it doesn't exist to PURCHASE, it IS however, available via LMG Download.

Now that's a role-reversal to how it nearly always ends up having to work - a request to TT to have relevant map actually added to a user account.

Cheers for the heads up though.

I can't actually try yet myself you see, as I have other Plus services on my account, so I need to have the new device id added by TomTom, in order to keep my Plus services, and they require a scan of your receipt.

Course, they don't work weekends either, so it's gonna be Monday before they even SEE it, let alone send it up to Second Line, as First Line apparently aren't allowed to do it.

DOH to TomTom.

But THANKS, to you.

CAN ANYONE CLARIFY THE POSITION FOR x30 / v8.xx USERS PLEASE?

So in anticipation of either using my LMG once TT add my new device to my account, or if that's down and I need to go down the Email and proof of purchase route, what exactly am I aiming for here...
TomTom have a reputation for their map naming conventions being "unusual". The name quoted by the device when you seek it out is dependent on whatever is written on the first line of the .pna file (not necesarily what the map covers). It is even user changeable by editing that line - you could change it to read Timbuktoo if you wanted to. I have changed three of mine to read "606", "660", and "675" - all being originally called Western Europe, that makes it easier to select the map I want to use.

What you are aiming for is to get LMG for a v8xx map on a v8xx application on a GO730. It would be unwise (nay, impossible, because they link map availability to device model) to get LMG of a v7xx map for a v8xx device. You have elected to change from 720 to 730, rather than wait for Halfords to get you a 720 from another branch - that means you get the 730 maps (v8xx), not the 720 maps (v7xx). Go figure.

If you choose to have a go at TomTom, I suggest you first visit their map shop page and select the relevant maps available for sale for the 720 and 730 devices and write down what countries are covered by each map (I tried, but the list won't copy and paste for me).

So it's 06:00, UK is asleep, USA is asleep, I'll get my download now and it will probably be less than 1:50.

I sometimes find this site very difficult to use. I don't really do computers and codes ant HTML tags and all the rest of it What is wrong with simply pasting or inserting an image?

FRUSTRATED at every turn. Mad

Edit Proper image now installed, thanks to all who helped. Very Happy

I had awful difficulty at first getting images into a post. I now use Photobucket and the only difference I can see between your entry above and a similar one from me, is that the end bit you have is /photo#123456789012345 (whatever), whereas mine would say /picturename.jpg. With photobucket, all I have to do is upload the picture (jpeg) to my album, then click on Image Code to copy the entry to clipboard and paste into my post. Don't ask me how it works, I'm a total Numpty, it just works and I'm grateful! Confused What's an HTML tag? Question
If you click on Quote for my post, you can look at the entry for this picture to see how it looks

I tried to use LMG for my 930 on Friday. It identified and downloaded both 805 US and Euro maps before installing both correctly.

Thought I'd post this for any new 930 owners who are getting worried by all the bad experiences people are getting. Don't despair! You might be lucky Smile

The problem is that you are linking to a Web Page, not an Image.

This is the image you wanted to show. Wink

Hello Richard, Aparently, you upload your photo to a web page, then insert the URL into this form using the IMG buttons - or not?? Even the link that you have supplied shows the whole web album page, not purely the picture.
It appears that DennisN can do it, only, using a different programme. I already have the image on my pc, so I don't understand why it needs to be uploaded to the internet, just to paste it on the forum?

Dennis, when you preview this, do you actually see the image or is it just gibberish text?

If you want to display just the picture then do the following:
Upload your picture to your favorite web site (you have done this already)
Display the picture in your web browser and then right click on it. This will bring up a menu, select Properties from that menu and you will see a lot of information about your picture including a line like this:
http://lh3.ggpht.com/tom2move/SEKX22suNgE/AAAAAAAAAFg/MKbfXxGdLoE/s160-c/TomTom.jpg
Copy all that text and paste it between the [img] and [/img] tags in your post.

If it has all worked you will see your picture when you preview your post.

I cant help feeling a little bit offended by the hoops we're being asked to jump through to get our LMG honoured here - its almost as if TomTom assume customers to be pirates/cheats until and unless they can prove that they're not!
Put it this way - how hard can it be to keep a note of which map is installed on machines at point of manufacture? Sort of like 'serial number up to M900000000 launched with 710. map, serial number M900000001 up to M900050000 with 715. map, M9000050001 onward with 720. maps, etc? If they know that, then when someone purchases a particular serial number TomTom should already know that that unit only has 710. maps and the current version is 720., so he's entitled to the upgrade. At that point all they theoretically need is the till receipt!
I really dont think its unreasonable to expect TomTom to be a bit less demanding in giving the customer what he's paid for!

I'm with you all the way on this.

BUT how much easier for them to have a note on their server with the current latest map version available, and you access it simply by logging into Home, it registers your first usage, when you click LMG it looks at what map you've got, what date you registered, what map they've got, what date it is today. If today is less than thirty days from "registered" AND your map is earlier than what they've got, you get to have the latest map.

I have to be honest - I thought this was how LMG worked, but it doesn't. I now think it works by looking at your map version, your registered date, then offers you the next incremental map up, NOT the latest available map. I had v710, I was within 30 days, they offered me v715. They had v720, but their brilliantly written (NOT) software couldn't give it to me.

Copy the MapSettings.cfg File from your Backup to the new Map Folder.
