After reading several posts I attemted to install voice allerts on nuvi 310 I downloaded the voice files converted them to Mp3 files and placed them on the nuvi together with the camera data base, useing the poi loader. Not as easy as first thought. Can some one give me step by step instructions on how to do this. If it is possible with the nuvi 310. Confused

Welcome

There's probably help elsewhere it's very simple - but exacting.

Create a folder on your PC to hold all your custom POIs (inc speed cams)

Get your mp3 files into the same directory. The real trick is that they must have EXACTLY the same name as the speed camera files (same case etc) The only thing allowed to be different is the extension.

So the names will depend upon the actual speed camera database you have downloaded (consolidated etc...). Also you need to be sure that you have the right files for the camera (i.e. GATSO, Mobile etc). Any camera types without an associated mp3 will still work - but you will get the default sound.

Connect up the 310 via the USB

Make sure it goes into MASS storage mode - the splash screen should have a picture of a computer and disk on it.

Then run POILoader.

It should spot the nuvi and 'connect' to it.

Make sure the units are correct and that Express mode is selected (this should be the default).

Point POILoader at the folder with the speed cams in and allow it to replace the existing POI file. This step can take a minute or two (even more). Windows may think the s/w is not responding - but it will finish - give it time.

Try it out with a test drive.

Handy hint 1: Once you have it working you may want to take a look a ASH10's camera manager (see sticky at top of this forum). It makes the management of the files just that bit easier. It won't really help first time around as you still need to get the mp3s named correctly and it requires you to have run POILoader at least once, in order to pick up the correct folder.

Handy Hint 2: Again - after this is working if you want to download other POIs from this site - create sub folders in your original folder for each type of POI (eg ATMs) . When these are downloaded they will appear in different categories (named after the sub-folder name) which makes it easier to manage/find when you want to use them. Remember each time you run POILoader your nuvi custom POIs are deleted and recreated - so if you forget a category - it's removed!
