BT-338 problem - Globalsat Customer Service not helpful

This is my first post so I hope everything's OK with it.

My two year old (but rarley used) BT-338 was called into service recently when my wired GPS receiver failed and it functioned OK for a couple of days but then failed to switch on.

The problem is best described as follows –

1) With the battery installed and the on/off button pressed and held for two seconds the green LED lights and 3 seconds later the blue LED begins to flash but immediately the button is released both LEDs go out. For the brief period the blue LED is lit the TomTom software on my HP2210 detects the signal from the BT-338.

2) The unit responds in a similar manner with the battery removed and the mains charger connected.

The battery appears to be fully charged (voltage 4.17v)

I have found links elsewhere to others reporting a similar problem but have failed to find a solution. I've asked Globalsat for advice but they have not responded.
