How are these sent out?
Looking at the TT website - purchase and download maps - suggests that you can download them to your PC and TT immediately.
But reading through some of the Forum topics - mainly complaints about accuracy of the new version 675, suggests that these are sent by post.

Does it depend on which device you have?

I downloaded my map (Western and Central Europe - 1.7GB). They do take a long time to download though - over 2 hours on my 2MB broadband.

There were also available on a DVD. Not sure if the DVD is still available.

I thought they are only available by download, which is how I got my Western & Central Europe v675. Thank goodness I've got 8MB broadband for 30-45 minutes download time!!

That map will NOT fit on your existing GO700 until you delete the previous map. In the words of the prophet, Windows Explorer, BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP, then after you've downloaded the new map (because some people have had problems with the download - I didn't), delete the old and install the new using TT Home. Deleting the old map will lose you all your favourites and settings. To recover them into the new map, copy the old mapsettings.cfg file from the backups you've got as instructed above, into the new map directory and rename it if necessary to MapSettings.cfg (NOTE Upper and Lower case letters).

Many thanks guys.
I have now downloaded WE & CE maps to My Computer in TT Home, and have backed up.
But do not find TT Home very user friendly.
When I try to instal, yes, it says the maps are too large for the space available, but if I try to delete the od maps, it warns of "Invalid confuration - must have at least 1 map on your TT".
Should I delete anyway?

A very nervous beginner would appreciate some guidance before I do something which is irrecoverable.

What I did was cut and paste the old maps with Windows Explorer, and that way you got the old maps as back up if anything goes wrong, but you should do a full Windows Explorer back up before you do anything else

This is the business ...

So, now you've got the new map safely downloaded ..

1. Backup using Windows explorer - make sure it's set to show all files and extensions, then copy everything into a new directory on your PC.
2. You can then safely delete the old map using TT Home or Windows Explorer, whichever you prefer.
3. Install the new map using TT Home. It normally advises you to do a backup first and asks you if you want to. No harm in doing so. Then go ahead with the install. You should also have received new Postcode files (GB and Holland), which also have to be installed - I'd do those first using Home.

When you have finished, remember it's most important to disconnect the GO properly from your PC - if using Win Explorer, right click the drive letter and select Eject, or if using Home, click on the "My Device" icon bottom left to disconnect. Not disconnecting properly is a well known cause of grief.

Bear in mind this will all take some time, so have your GO700 plugged in to the power supply - running out of power in the middle of this lot would be soooo not good!

Look back to see my previous words about getting your favourites back.

Thanks again Dennis.
Have now installed WE&CE onto TT. (Also postcodes)
Question:
Why is file size of new maps installed on TT 1.6GB but on the original download to HOME/My computer it was 1.7GB?
Have I lost anything?

Also not sure where to look for old mapsettings.cfg.
I did not use WE to backup, only TTHome.
(Did it before I saw Dennis' last post.)
Is that the problem?

When you backup with Home, it does not alway restore, that why we say back up with Windows Explorer

Stop it! Can you understand some of us occasionally grinding our teeth at people? 'Course, it serves me right that you don't read it all, because (and I'm rather well known for it) I do not read manuals myself - why should I expect others to do any better? Rolling Eyes

I would imagine an easy way to find it might be to do a search in Windows Explorer for mapsettings.cfg

I'm not at my desktop PC right now so can't remember the folder where Home puts the backups - it's something like Docs & Settings\My Documents\Applications\Home\Backups, but that could be soooo wrong with my aging memory cells!!
I cannot explain the file size difference, something to do with computer magic, but you haven't lost anything. Remember the file name is MapSettings.cfg (NOTE Upper and Lower case letters) and you copy it into the map folder.[/code]

Now back on the PC, out of devilment, I did a search with Win Explorer for mapsettings.cfg. It found 56 of them!! Well, I do have a couple of GOs and I do back them up every now and again!! Rolling Eyes
