WAV files for speed alerts

Sorry, I'm being dim today. Where can I download WAV files to use for speed alert POIs?

You can download a whole host of different audio files from This Page, they are in ogg format, to get them converted to the wav file format you simply require to use Audacity to open each ogg file and use the File/ Export as WAV from the tool bar - Mike

Ah, thanks Mike. I saw you posted that solution before but was wondering if anyone had put the WAV files on the web somewhere for download.

If not, I suppose I'll just have to get converting Smile

Due to the huge file size the wav files consume compared to the ogg format I doubt anyone would bother these days, conversion only takes seconds per file on the PC - if wav format were hosted and downloaded by thousands it would seriously hit bandwidth in comparison to the ogg format - and sat nav/ PDA devices really don't need stereo Speed Camera warnings in true high audio quality - Mike

Done it and all seems to work well.

My only complaint is that it often plays the WAV file a few times as you approach the speed camera, which can be ... irritating Smile

Using the latest version of POILoader you can use .mp3 files instead of .wav It makes the resulting .gpi file much smaller on the nuvi - about a factor of 10 times smaller for just speed cameras.

In fact, unless you have a particular old beta version of POI Loader, you don't have WAV support, and will need to use mp3 files anyway.

didnt know you could do this, so how do you change the files then, is it easy??

As per Mike's post above, download the .OGG files and use Audacity to convert them to .mp3 files.

You have to load the POI warnings sounds via the Windows POI Loader having them already in the right format.

In terms of music, the unit only plays mp3s, so again, they have to already be in this format.

Other than that, I don't understand your question...

i wasnt sure how the speed camera sounds could be changed on the Nuvi, my fault, i didnt make it that clear, sorry

So all i need to do is use the POI loader on the sound files when i update the camera locations at the same time (i need to do it soon anyway as its a few months out of date)??

If the .mp3 files have the exact same filename (except for the .mp3 extension) as the other POI files (in the same way that a custom bitmap has the same filename as the .csv file) then when you run POI Loader over the .csv files, POI Loader will also use the sound file for both the initial distance warning and the overspeed warning.
