communication timeout on MM adventurer 2800

my adventurer 2800 won't search for satellites and the gps info says that i'm experiencing 'communication timeout', basically it's given up looking. how do you go about making it go looking again? should i just go and sit outside and wait until it refreshes (does it do that?) or is there a way to force it to do it?

it would be good if MM did a few simple troubleshooting flow charts when problems arose.
