I have also updated to the same version using the updater tool. When i did i noticed that in addition to the traffic receiver update there was an option to update something which was entitled C5XX. Can anybody tell me what this is and whether i need to add this to my C510.

Thanks

If you can provide us a bit more detail on exactly what it offered, I'm sure someone can tell you whether or not they recommend you to apply the update.

Maybe the Mods could split this off on its own thread 'TMC Blackspots'. Two of the areas without coverage seem to be Reading M4 to M25 and High Wycombe M40 to M25 exactly where coverage would be handy,I'm not sure if this is purely because of the TMC coverage as out and about in an Audi with its own TMC & SatNav coverage in these areas seems fine.Maybe the 510 receiver is a low quailty?

I think the thread would be shorter if it were named 'Areas where the mythical TMC actually works'

Don't forget an inbuilt system will most often use the external aerial which without a doubt will provide a more reliable signal, RDS-TMC is plagued in the UK by poor signal coverage.
I would like to see the provision of an external aerial connection on any RDS-TMC device aimed at the UK market:
1/ better signal = better coverage
2/ option to hide all the wiring = neater car & less prone to theft.
3/ a system that actually works, or can be made to work via external connection

I have yet to find an RDS-TMC that works reliably in the UK without resorting to modification and connection to an external aerial, if TMC is needed the only reliable method is GPRS via mobile phone, this brings with it an issue of cost, and not all nav unit suppliers provide the option. This, then brings in to question the reliability of information.

Given time I hope thet the suppliers get the above sorted out, for now though a post entitled "where tmc actually works" won't get many replies - Mike

Driving down to South Devon and surrounding areas, main routes had near on solid TMC coverage, once returning to London it was the opposite.
