Guys I have just bought a Garmin i3, and am over the moon with how amazing it is.

Now the problem lies with loading the speed camera's onto the thing. I am a registered user but the different categories are confusing me far too much!!!!!!

All I want is for my i3 to alert me to ANY upcoming speed camera. How do I do this and which database should I use? I am aware that it will only alert me if I am going above the speed limit.

Also when I load the camera will I be able to see the camera symbol on the map showing where the camera are?

Any help will be really appreciated!!!!!

Hi westyorkshireguy,

Here is how you do it.

1. From this (Pocket GPS World) site select the yellow camera image labelled "Click Here For Speed Cameras" which is located on the right hand side of the page under the heading "Miscellaneous".

2. For Sat Nav System select "Garmin" and press "Continue".

3. For Camera selections select "UK - POILoader i3, Nuvi etc"

4. Select "Download Database"

The downloaded database will be in a zipped file that you will have to unzip before you load it into your i3.

5. Plug your i3 into your computer USB port, open your "Sat Nav POI Loader" file and upload the unzipped database.

Hope this helps but if you are still having problems visit http://www.MaFt.co.uk/garmin/info.htm for further assistance.

Regards,

Robert Swanson

Hi westyorkshireguy,

You will be able to see the cameras on the map, but only if you are exceeding the speed limit.

If you are under the speed limit you will just get an audible warning and a speed limit message at the top of the screen.

Regards,

Robert Swanson

westyorkshireguy, you could also try Ash10's or CBROM's utilities (links at top of garmin forum) which allow you to have the icons displaying all the time whether you are over the speed limit or not.

welcome, by the way, from another west yorkshire guy Smile

Thanks for that, and thanks for the welcome!!!!!

I have just got it all working now with teh Speed Cameras. I work for the local radio station called The Pulse, and everyone there is really impressed with my new i3. We are even thinking of getting one for our branded vehicle as it is so good!

I am wanting to register my i3 on the Garmin website, but I seem to have lost the yellow piece of paper with the registartion number on, so can't do it. Does anyone have any idea how I can get around this or find the number out?

Also MaFt, just want to say what a fantastic sight you have here, and how impressive the set up you have!

Might even try and get you some mentions on the radio if you can extend my membership! Laughing Out Loud !-)

I'm sure I didn't have a yellow slip with my i3. Garmin will give you the necessary information to register your unit if you phone them (01794 519944 or 0808 238 0000) email them (techsupp@garmin.com), or use the contact form on the website. You'll need your serial number, which can be found under the battery door.

I am impressed you have remembered our frequency!!!!!

I have managed to register my i3 now by e-mailing Garmin direct thanks.

A little glitch has happened since I have managed to load all my POI's onto the INTERNAL memory of the i3. It seems to struggle a bit with the map actually freezing up. It has never done this before and has only happened since I added all the POI's.

Now I have ordered a micro SD adaptor so I can load everything onto the micro SD, would this solve the problem??????

it may help. but remember that the i3 is a budget unit and lacks a high-speed processor. all the extra icons etc it has to process can bog it down somewhat. external card may help as it could then use the internal memory as 'cache' for it's calculations

Do you know what firmware / version you are running - something like 2.7...

I haven't yet tried putting all the POI's onto the memory card, but it is definately struggling to cope with the speed cameras on the internal memory. The map just freezes for a while before juttering back.

The software details are as follows for my unit:-

-Mapsource Product:
City Navigator Europe NT+ v8 Deluxe Unlock

-Region:
City Navigator Europe NT+ v8, Deluxe All Regions, Sept. 05
