don't know whether garmin will do this again or how they will get over the peeps with mapping on internal memory

When i asked garmin they said it would be released on a DVD, so I'm crossing "DVD Release" OFF my list of ways they can release it....

have just bought an i3 last week and it says I need to update it.

Garmin have said not to worry as if anyone has purchased the unit after 1st September 2006, then you get a free update. The update it out at the end of the year, or January 2007 at the latest.

Until then you have to put up with the update warning!

What if you don't want to buy the update?

I wonder if it is legal to have un-solicited advertising forced onto you?

Maybe we can all sue Garmin for the cost of the unit if they fail to remove the nag screen?

I entirely agree, there should be a way of removing the update reminder, as it is blatant advertising.

This time next year when I won't be entitled to the update, I will be left with this annoying message without being able to switch it off.

Don't know what we can do about it though.

But you should be able to have a choice to upgrade or not.

One question I do have is how up to date are the maps of the updates.

I live on Barrat housing estate which was completed 3 years ago with around 500 houses, yet it doesn't have the streets by me on the i3 maps.

Why aren't they so up to date? It surely can't take 3 years for them to recognise brand new roads?????

the firmware was version 3.10 and the reminder screen was apparent with that,i updated to 3.20 and no change the screen still tells me i can update !

maybe it'll change when i get the update dvd (?) in January

Depends if the roads are under local council control as private roads are some times not listed, half my new estate is on the garmin and other half is not. TomTom doesnt even have the area on their latest maps.

It also amazes me people can bitch off on a un it costing under a ton or maybe thats just me - Im sure you know youre way home so whats the problem. Rolling Eyes

I think the point about the unit costing under a ton is invalid, since the underlying maps will be used by more expensive units also. In addition, the pont about the unit not recognising roads that you already know about is well made - it makes you suspect the quality of the data in areas that you have no knowledge of.[/quote]

The i3 should do what it is meant to do, and work how a sat nav unit should, without hang up's etc!

My estate is still not under council control yet, so that answers my question, thanks.
