hey everyone, very useful website!

i used to have a spv c500 running tomtom 5 (i think) as my sat nav. since then i upgraded to a c550. got a lovely green screen of death. havnt thought much of it since.
today i realised my mobile once again needed an upgrade. had a look at the new SPVs and realised their going all PDA style. suddenly i clicked that maybe my sat nav will work on the new ones.

a few checks later and overall the answer is 'nu uh' unless i want to lose tech support and run into lots of dificulties... so ive decided...
it may be worth me selling my GPS unit.
get a normal boring no bells or whistles mobile and make the change from boy, to man, and get a PDA to sat navulate :D

here i run into dificulties. never bought or looked at PDAs before...so may buy a plum Sad
another thing is, ill only be using it as a sat nav or mp3 player in the car if i know where im going, so i wont need an amazing one... as long as it will do both of those...
plus, im a student and want to be obsurdely cheap. Embarassed

so, im putting it in your hands people.
reconmendations.
what software.
things i havnt thought of.

i must admit,
i do seem to be drawn towards Destinator (3 i think?)
because im doing a multimedia course and that means i have unlimited access to a recording studio for perfect(ish) custom .Wav files,
plus i can edit the .BMP files etc to give it a bit of a personal touch. i think thats a really cool bonus.
is it true that the destinator 3 system doesnt need subsciptions? :D

i think its the Acer n35? that comes with Destinator pre-installed?
.......looking good.....but admitedly, dont really know what im looking at.

so yeah, recomendations people please Smile
in short:
-Cheap as possible!!!!
-will mainly be a MP3 player
-Sat nav system that can be personalised a bit would be a plus
-cheap as possible...again...(second hand is fine)

sorry for the long winded report on my life history but hopefully now we can cut the questions and get straight to reconmendations Smile

thanks for the quick reply.

i was looking at the SPV M3100 and SPV M600 but realised that i dont use many minutes (stupid fear of talking on the phone, rather text), and that they probably wont let me have a low minute contract on a 'phone' like that so would end up costing a lot.
also i would only use the mp3, text, maybe phonecall and satnav on it. so would kind of defeat the point of having a flash phone/pda that does email, fax, walks the dog etc.

just realised the spv 500 is still going though... i may go back to that. but found it to be laggy with tomtom back in the day. *rubs chin*

they will?

im someone was complaining that tom tom wouldnt activate the software on the SPV as it wasnt in their list of devices?

hm.... are these hand sets any good for using tomtom? and are they any good in general? (mp3 capabilities and the like)

thanks a lot! possibly saved me a load of money! :D

not to cause any fistycuffs as i know many people will like different programs more than others.
but what are the pro's and cons of tomtom V Destinator?

thats was mainly due to th user having used up all the activations they had and then changed devices before the end of the 180 day third activation
