|

Does anyone know if the latest version of TomTom 6 is compatible with the HP IPAQ HX2790?
The device is not listed in the compatible PDAs but the IPAQ HX2190 and 2490 are. I queried this with TomTom and they told me that, "We have taken a commercial decision to meet the fast moving PDA/mobile market by developing NAVIGATOR 6 to work with new handheld devices that have more memory and processing power to run new features, compared to the previous generation of products."[i] and that my device at the moment wasn't compatible.
I've checked up on the specs on the HP website as I thought the 2190, 2490 and 2790 were similar PDAs with increasing levels of power and the 2790 has the fastest processor of the three (and the same memory).
I would have thought that this would mean the HX2790 is compatible but TomTom tell me it isn't - anyone got any knowledge of this issue? |

TomTom are overly conservative. Your iPAQ will work just fine. _________________ Lutz

Cheers Lutz! - I thought it was a bit odd that the faster PDA wasn't compatible with those listed! |

Hi, I have a Fujitsu Siemens pocket loox N560. It has a 624 MHz processor and built in Sirf 3 GPS. I run Tom Tom Navigator 5 on it and it works fine, even though Tom Tom do not support it.
I also have a Qtek 8500 (200 MHz processor) Smartphone running Tom Tom Mobile 5. This work best of all and I love the single thumb/finger operation. Does anyone know if Navigator 6 will run on either of these machines. |

Ah, that's good to know - thanks for the information. I received a further email from TomTom when I stated that the HX2790 had the faster processor and they replied, "Unfortunately, we cannot exactly say why Navigator 6 is not compatible with specific PDA's at the moment. There could be other specifics not directly related to the processor speed that cause problems."
I think they're just hedging their bets so they can't be blamed if it doesn't work properly!
When you say the maps aren't up to much is that a technical issue with the HX2790 or just they're disappointing as an update? |
