The map upgrade will only work if:
1. You already have that country's map on the device, and
2. it is an older version.
So if you want to run the update again, or add another country map, you will first have to install the old map(s) from the CD.
I'd still like to know where this GreatBritain7ppc.fbl comes from.

Now this is strange, I have re-installed the united kingdom map off the CD onto the C510 and was about to re-install the new update again off the mio site when I just thought I would check what version the mio now shows on it.....and.....it is now showing united kingdom 2006.1+, yes that + sign has turned up on it, so do I leave it as it is or connect again and upgrade and see what happens? Any advice or thoughts please.

Snap! I have just discovered the same. So it looks like the + indicates the old map.
Well, if you have the time you could try upgrading again and see if you get the '7' file this time.

Sal, I`m stuck, Have just tried to upgrade the maps again but all I get is
updating the maps, % to download and 9000 whatever kb to install, so it seems to be updating from what is on my pc. How do I get to do another download from the mio site itself please.
Have tried this once anyway and of course it puts the new uk map back on and then I dont get the + again....so basically I want to do another install direct.

I expect that it is installing from the cache on your PC where the files are dumped before loading on the Mio. If you want a completely fresh download you will need to delete the GB file from \Mio Technology\Miomapt V3 updater\cache\maps\ |

knew you would say that, so what I had done before trying the update again was to delete the files from the cache to the bin, not delete altogether, thinking the update would not find the file and therefore do a new install. What it did do was tell me that it couldnt find the file to upload to the mio.
I wasnt given any other options to download from the site .

The only other thing you could do is to remove/rename the cache.db file from the folder above \cache. This seems to be a list of downloaded files. If you take that away it will think you haven't got any files and will probably offer you the whole upgrade again.

Quote: | just out of interest, the NR4 postcodes on the unit start at NR4 6 etc so i can enter beyond the space. I tried to find the NR4 1PA code on the internet but it was not recognised either. Is this a genuine postcode or made up? |
I suspect it is a duff postcode. I was trying out postcodes that others had tried out. The NR4 1PA was from rronaldson ...
Quote: | So if I put in NR4 1PA it just gives me Norwich city centre and not the actual postcode location. |
And yes - I can enter a 7 digit postcode using NR4 6RT on the C510E.

Oops, yes sorry NR4 1PA doesn't seem to be a valid postcode. I picked some out of a magazine so must have made a mistake there. _________________ Reg |

My C210 still works with a 7 digit postcode.
Which device(s) are other people using?
Can we determine if it's device specific or if it could be a general problem? |

UK 2006.01+
Post Code up to 7 characters plus the space
Looking in the Maps folder I see that the UK map is GreatBritain7PPC.fbl _________________ Reg |

The UK map is 2006.01+ but I did notice that there were 2 files downloaded from Mio when installing v3.2 :-
greatbritain.fbl (85,106KB) and greatbritain7ppc.fbl (93,845KB) |
I've done the update twice but have never seen the greatbritain7ppc file. Do others have it?
Sal |
I have just deleted my upgarded GB map and revert back to the cd version - 7 digit post codes restored. Deleted the files and the cache and upgarded again - post code issue has come back as expected from the previous posts.
At no time have I seen the mythical GB7PPc file.
Sal - I guess you and I have the same issue - |

I have reverted entirely, programs and maps, to the original 3.1 CD's. Then updated all over again.
Still no 7/8 figure postcodes, no sign of the 7ppc map.
Have emailed Mio "support" in the faint hope that someone will read it.

Hi
I noticed that allan125 reported the file sizes of the GB files slightly smaller than the sizes I reported. I don't know why there would be a difference depending on whether you have a C210 or a C510.
Quote: | My C210 came back with GreatBritain7ppc.fbl (93,603 kb) in the root, along with a diagnostic packet (Dm PEDM Diag Manager) they have left and the main GreatBritain.fbl (84,087kb) is in the Maps folder |
I have taken the SD card out of my Mio C510E and examined it through a card reader I have. The gb 7ppc file that is in my cache is NOT on the SD card and the other GB file is !
These are the GB files in my cache :-
Code: | 09/10/2006 20:07 87,147,932 greatbritain.fbl
09/10/2006 20:41 96,096,946 greatbritain7ppc.fbl |
And this is the GB file on my SD card :-
Code: | 09/10/2006 20:19 87,147,932 GreatBritain.fbl |
So, unless the 7ppc file is on my Mio internal store (which I cannot see without Bluetooth), I think I have just the GB file from the 3.2 upload on the SD Card.
If I take out the SD card from the C510E, the GB map is still reported as UK 2006.01+ and I am assuming that the Mio Updater updated it on both the Mio internal store and the SD card, because I can see it on the SD card and the Mio works in UK without the SD card in place.
Now if it only installed the new 3.2 map on the SD card, then maybe the Mio is ignoring the SD card GB maps and using the ones on its internal store (whether the SD card is present or not), and maybe mine is working because the GB map on the C510E internal store was NOT updated by this process.
I hope that makes sense to someone as I was getting confused whilst I was writing it !!
