Hi Sallyann. Is that true for all postcodes. I find some work and others don't. Can't see a pattern though. _________________ Reg |

All those I have tested yes.
I'm going to replace the GB map with the old map and try another update from the Mio site.

I must've tried 20 postcodes at least - none worked because it wasn't possible to enter more than 5 digits (including the space).
Putting the old map back seems to have fixed the problem - I have to admit I didn't see any massive difference between the maps in my area (all errors in the old map were still in the new one), so I'll keep the old maps for now.
Sal - let us know how you get on with the re-update. |

Hi all.
Just my tuppence worth.
Mine's definitely gone to a 4/5 digit postcode search since the update.
Reminds me of a poxy Navman I used to own.
How could Mio get it so wrong?
The old adage of 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' springs to mind with this new postcode search.

I tried this on my C710 with 3.2. I made up a local postcode and of course it wasn't valid so it could not home to a valid code. So I put a proper one in and was able to put all 7 characters in.
If it doesn't work for a known code, then maybe the file is incomplete.
DN4 5AH
worked but I realise that it is 6 digits. My sister used to live there.
So I tried a 7 digit one:
GU52 0YJ which wasn't available in 3.11, and it works in 3.2 _________________ ------------------------------

Well, I put the old GB map back in, from the CD. As expected, the postcodes were fixed.
Did a fresh upgrade, and the problem returns. Can't enter the last two letters. The map is once again 2006.1 (no +).
So, how come that some of us have got version 2006.1+ ?

Noticed another odd thing. I have my home address set up as Home Favourite. After I've set up a route and gone to Edit it shows the start of the route as another house number in our road and the postcode shows with the last two letters missing. _________________ Reg |

Disregard the comment about postcode displays. I think it only shows first 5 characters and did so on the old version as well. I still don't understand the incorrect start address. _________________ Reg |

As this seems to differ slightly for everyone, may be worth posting what people have installed and what works under what conditions.
I seem to be ok after installing 3.2 on 7 digit postcodes except for the Norwich one.
I tried out all those postcodes on my C510E and got this :-
S60 5TR : able to enter ands finds unnamed road nr. Rotherham
NR4 1PA : only able to enter NR4 and a space - nothing else
WA7 4UJ : able to enter and find Picow Farm Rd
DN4 5AH : able to enter and find North St.
GU52 0YJ : able to enter and find it ok
I have just upgraded my C510E with v3.2 and all the latest maps. It lost connection on Italy but recovered from that.
The UK map is 2006.01+ but I did notice that there were 2 files downloaded from Mio when installing v3.2 :-
greatbritain.fbl (85,106KB) and greatbritain7ppc.fbl (93,845KB)
I am guessing the one with the '7ppc' suffix is the '+' version and that '7ppc' may indicate 7 digit postcodes, but thats purely a guess.
I do not have bluetooth so cannot tell which file was actually uploaded from the cache to the Mio, just that I have the '+' version on the Mio. In my cache, I can see from the file times that the 85MB GB file was downloaded first and the 93MB files was downloaded afterwards.
Maybe, the order of download matters, and that the 85MB one gets overwritten later by the 93MB. Maybe some downloaded for others in a different order ?
Pure guesswork of course, but I fear that the most likelihood of getting to the bottom of this problem will be through this forum, given the (lack of) response from Mio to most problems put their way. |

Hi all,
after the V3.2 upgrade, i too found that only a 4 digit postcode could be entered on my C510E. I deleted the new UK map via bluetooth and copied back the V3.11 map and everything now seems to work ok. I have replicated the results for the postcodes as listed and found by PaulH66 above. The UK map version now shows as 2006.01+. |

I've done the update twice but have never seen the greatbritain7ppc file. Do others have it?

Hi PaulH66,
just out of interest, the NR4 postcodes on the unit start at NR4 6 etc so i can enter beyond the space. I tried to find the NR4 1PA code on the internet but it was not recognised either. Is this a genuine postcode or made up? |

Since my update at Mio I cannot get 7 digit post-codes in full only 5 digits, in fact it cuts in quite early!!
My C210 came back with GreatBritain7ppc.fbl (93,603 kb) in the root, along with a diagnostic packet (Dm PEDM Diag Manager) they have left and the main GreatBritain.fbl (84,087kb) is in the Maps folder.
As it now works in Europe properly, for the first time in 4 months, and I don't at present need TMC, nor quick access to 7 character post-codes, I am leaving well alone!!
cheers
