But presumably one will be able to buy software only and not be forced to purchase a new GPS receiver?

Hi Mark,

TomTom's website here has a (not yet available) package of software/maps only.

Elsewhere, here they state that:
TomTom NAVIGATOR 6 will be available from September 2006. It is available as a stand alone software product or bundled together with a mobile phone or PDA (see separate press release) through retailers. TomTom NAVIGATOR 6 will cost from £69.

So hopefully that's the cost of code and maps.

Before any of us rush out and pay full cost, do check that there isn't any form of upgrade. Although, as per my original post, Support have stated there would be no upgrade, on their website their (rather old) statement here still says there will be a discount for existing owners.

I am going to wait and see if an upgrade comes out.

Ringing support or customer service or even sales probably won't help. One hand will not know what the other hand is doing. Best just to sit this one out for a bit. I have waited this long, I can wait a bit longer.

I've pretty much decided on the ONE v2.

I can effectively buy the GB version from Argos for 50 quid and as my pda car mount finally broke this morning it looks like a no brainer.

Realised I don't need european maps (other than greece which isn't covered) until next April so no need to spend the extra on maps at the minute.

Where's that? It's £199.99 on the Argos web site

I have 30,000 nectar points which I can cash in at Argos for a £150 credit.

Although they've now listed the europe model so I may wait for that after all.

Well i did the deed today - new tomtom one v2 on the dash.

works brilliantly - connected automatically to my (not supported EL71 handset) good mount, clear loud voice, fix within 15 seconds of coming out the box an absolute joy after the hassles that have come with new versions of Navigator....

for the cash this is a very very good system. I can't see gps on a pda with seperate gps units plus software having a future in 12/18 months time - just won't be cost effective especially with the lack of new pda models coming out....

end of an era for me going back to palmtop and city maps.......and a £250 cf gps adaptor... how times change.

I'll even have to change forums...

Arrow Tomtom go here I come
