For those of you, like me who use Microsoft’s Auto-route 2006 on a laptop for navigation, you may, or may not know that you can add an audible speed camera warning via a “plug in” that is freely available on the net, called “GATSO Hunter”.

Autoroute 2006 now has text-to speech directional instructions, & an audible speed camera warning is a welcome feature to this brilliant program. (Autoroute is still the best navigation program on any platform in my opinion)

GATSO Hunter does require a bit of setting up, but it’s not too complicated. & it’s free!

You will need this Active X comport control.

Copy the file into your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory
You need to register the component with the Windows program -REGSVR32.EXE. Use the following command:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MSCOMM32.OCX

Download-: GATSO Hunter v1.0 from:
http://www.ignatu.plus.com/gatsohunter.htm

If you use the latest speed camera data from www.pocketgpsworld.com. Be sure to enclose the name field in quotes using a text editor ie

Longitude,Latitude,Name
-0.76298,51.98999,"GATSO:5244@30"
-0.24594,52.58497,"GATSO:0890@30"

To get both Gatso Hunter & Autoroute 2006 reading the same GPS port you will need a program called XPORT to create some virtual com ports and assign the programs one each. Download xport at-:

Using Autoroute with speech & audible cameras really shows off the potential of this program to be the best on the market.

What we need now is for Microsoft to stop toe dipping with its pocket streets software and develop a fully fledged Laptop/PPC version.
