In my previous post concerning my recently purchased i3 with v7 maps and an upgrade to v8 from garmin, I showed you guys an email from garmin. They basically gave me a 25 digit unlock for mapsource europe.

So now I got hold of map source europe v7 and tried the code that garmin gave me and it works, mapsource europe v7 totally unlocked. Have I just been like incredibly lucky or is this correct? I also have another email from them telling me to register with their update email service and give them my full address, so it sounds like I am due to get a mapsource v8 upgrade.

I am a bit confused and I dont think I'll ever drive in europe, and I only wanted my i3 updating to v8, but I dont think I would be clever pushing this any further.

What do you guys think?

Wijit.

Hi All, my first post, but I have been watching here since I got my i3 in December.
I got the same!
I e-mailed Garmin to register my unit (as the web site would not let me) and they sent me a "delux" un-lock code!
All I need now is the Europe disk, spare cards & reader! 8)

Colin

Ps thanks for a great forum!! :D

Can you upload the maps onto your GPS? The unlock code is tied to your GPS serial number so this is the acid test. You should be able to get a new memory card and upload the maps using mapsource then plug it into the i3.

Let us know how you get on, I am sure there are a lot of people interested to see if it works.

As for the legality, if you have the unlock code then you are licensed to use the City Select maps.

I got lucky too. Bought City Navigator 6 (waiting on V7 update) and the unlock code I got with it has unlocked all of Europe too. I have downloaded waypoints OK but as my Unit is V8 I am loath to try updating anything. I know I cannot download maps because I aint got V8 on the Mapsource. :D
