I've noticed how the i3 zooms in when approaching junctions in Rout mode but have found that in normal driving mode it keeps zooming out to about half zoom. Is this only happening to me or is everyone seeing it?

That's normal and is one of the best features to let you make the best use of the tiny screen.

It would be if it zoomed back in again but it seems to stay zoomed out.

When in Map mode it has no way of knowing what turn you might make next. The idea is to give you an over view of the area.

In Route (navigation) mode it knows where you'll go next (it's leading you) so it zooms in to show the junction to help clarify the turn.

Imagine approaching a roundabout but then taking a turn before - would you want it zooming in to the roundabout when you don't need it to?

As Paul mentioned it zooms in when you need it to (when you approach a turn).

I think I have explained badly.

I'm finding that in Map mode it is zooming, not Navigation Mode. When I start I am 3 'Notches' from the bottom of the zoom bar. When I arrive at my destination I can be half way between the top and bottom.

The i3 has no idea where I am going, it is only telling me where safety cameras are.

Any ideas (I am open to the possibility that this may just be me going mad!!!).

Unfortunately I rarely use the i3 on Map Mode and therefore won't be able to give you an answer but could it be zooming in and out automatically depending on the amount of details on the screen at any particular time? I'll try and look for this when using it again in Map Mode.

It would be good if the map returns back to original setting when you return back to the same speed.

For example,if set my unit to max zoom in a built of area and then go on the motorwaythe unit will zoom out(good thing),and if I then return to a built up area(at original speed) it should return back to max zoom. It doesn't on mine as it is about 3 notches off max. Does anyone else experience this?

This happen with mine all the time. Just got used to re-zooming when you hit a built up area.[/quote]
