How to create POI Files

Hi
I am new to this firum and have looked everywhere to find a dummies guide to making POI files for my Streetpilot 13. I cant seem to find any really diy files on this subject.
Can anyone help out on this matter, or point me in the right direction by fiving me really simple ,plain english instructions on this subject
