Hi all,
can someone offer advice please, ive created my own csv files with my own personal pois, so now i need an icon, so iget an image, convert it to 22x22 on bitmap then u/l into the csv folder where it sits happily next to the xl/csv file, now after u/l to i3 and using my new poi it works, i can see my new icon i created from a jpeg (but changed to bitmap), looks fab, now i try to zoom in but i3 freezes, so i delete the icon from the folder and replace it with a copy of an existing icon (aldi), but the unit works fine now, no probs, but i want to use my new one, not bleedin aldi - HELP!!!!!!

Hi ride4smilesjonny,

I don’t have a Garmin, but you might want to check the level of colours in your .BMP file. This is true for TomTom products, which are happy with .BMP files that have up to 256 colours.

Regards,

Hi ride4smilesjonny,

If you're using a Windows PC, the best way is to use MS Paint. Open your .BMP in MS Paint and save it as a .BMP file with only 256 colours.

Another thought, are you using the exact same name for the .CSV file as your .BMP file?

If this doesn’t work then try saving the file as a 16 colour file.

Regards,

Hi ride4smilesjonny,

Another idea is to take the Aldi .BMP icon and use MS Paint to determine its attributes (e.g. size, number of colours, etc.). The colours can be worked out by using the "Save As" option where it should indicate 16 colours, 256 colours (8 bit), or 24 bit (16,777,216 colours).

In fact, if you do take the Aldi .BMP icon, save it as a new name and edit the new .BMP for use as your icon.

Regards,

Don't know about any1 else but you've ceartinally fixed my problem. The traffic lights icon worked and so did the specs but gatso and others wouldn't work. Opened up the icon in psp and saw the difference between the 2 files, one had 2 colours the other had 16 colours. I increased the Gatso file to 16 colours and voilla it works. Thanks again.
