garmin i3 poi problems

hi there and a happy new year to all
i recently got an i3 good system i think?
but have now got a problem with uploading pois loaded gps database first time but now when i want to update poi database i keep getting message through garmin poi loader device not ready.......
tryed switching off.
please help

does windows recognise the unit when it's turned on? i.e. do you get the 'bong-bong' of a new usb device attached? does it show up in device manager as 'garmin usb gps device'?
