Polarized screen

I have both a C310 and C320. Don't ask why...long story. The C310 was purchased first and works great. Ditto for the C320 too when it gets the post code update coming soon. But...it appears the screens on the C series are polarized, which may be like all other systems (or just those with touch screens - I don't know). The C310 is ok; the screen is clearly visible night time and day time with or without sunglasses. The C320 is fine as long as you don't wear polarized sunglasses in bright light, which I do. With the C320 mounted on the windscreen and me wearing the polarized Oakleys, the C320 screen is 100% black unless I rotate my head through 90 degrees. 8O 8O 8O Not very useful.

Anyone else come across this?

PS Please don't suggest, like Garmin has done, that I should drive without sunglasses. Evil or Very Mad

what they meant was you should drive without polarized sunglasses.

Maybe I'm expecting too much. Polarized sunglasses have been around for decades and how they work is well understood in industry. Perhaps I was thinking that someone who markets a device that conflicts with an existing and established technology might have thought fit to mention this. Wink

Unfortunately LCD technology is based on polarization. There's not much you can do, except for waiting for OLED technology to finally take off.

Exactly the same problems happen with the TomTom Go or with a Pocket PC when used in Landscape mode. It's just a question how the polarization filter in the LCD is arranged. If you're lucky it's vertical (like your glasses) if you're not lucky it's horizontal (blacking everything out).

Exactly my point. If it can be arranged one way, it can be arranged another - as the two units I have in my possesion clearly demonstrate.
